What’s New in One UI 3.1?
As the name suggests, One UI 3.1 is the successor version of the previous generation One UI 3.0 for Samsung devices. Initially, Samsung is rolling out the One UI 3.1 update to its eligible Android 11 running smartphones or tablet devices across the globe. The One UI 3.1 update also comes with the latest February 2021 Android Security Patch Level at the time of writing this article. While talking about the new features, we’ve mentioned all the One UI 3.1 features below.
1. Google Discover Feed Integration
It brings all-new Google Discover Feed integration which is also known as Google Feed. It basically offers a personalized content feed or news according to the user interest or recent activities. So, you may not need to browse newspapers or news sites that much for your favorite or useful content.
2. Control Google Home Devices
As the Android 11 itself offers Google Home device controls from the home screen or shortcuts, Samsung has also implemented the same for its devices. With this feature, Galaxy device users can easily add smart home devices from Google Home and other compatible apps that are useful.
3. Google Duo Integration
Now, all the One UI 3.1 running Samsung Galaxy device users can easily make video calls on Google Duo via the default Phone application. After inputting a number or selecting a contact on your device, you can choose the Google Duo option if you want to make a video call. You can also set the preferred video calling option via Duo from the phone app directly. Simple yet cool!

4. Video Calling Effects
The One UI 3.1 also brings video calling effects under the Advanced features option. That means you can select your preferred background effects while video calling to keep the focus on you and blurring the background or covering it with an image or color.
To keep in mind about the privacy measures, Samsung has shared a new option to easily remove the location data from your images or private share contents before sharing them with anyone else. You’ll find out the particular option when you select any image in the Gallery app and hit the Share button. All the GPS location info like latitude and longitude will be removed completely.
6. Continue Apps on Other Devices
So, if you’re already using multiple Galaxy devices at the same time, the ‘Continue Apps on Other Devices’ feature will come in handy for you. But make sure to sign in to the same Samsung Account on both devices. Once signed in, the feature will let you use an application on another device easily. But you’ll need to open or keep running the particular application on your device in the Recents panel and select the new icon.
7. Eye Comfort Shield
The Eye Comfort Shield is a new One UI 3.1 feature that uses the Blue Light Filter to protect eye-straining. You can choose either Adaptive or Custom shield for your preference.
8. Object Eraser
You should have known about this feature that can be found on the Gallery app. It helps you to remove any unnecessary background or object from your photos to make them cleaner or focused on what you want.
9. Improved Camera Features
The One UI 3.1 update brings a couple of changes or new features in the stock camera UI that includes Director’s View, Vlogger View, Single Take 2.0, Focus Enhancer, Live Focus has been renamed to Portrait and Portrait Video, and more.
There are plenty of other features available on the One UI 3.1 update something like vibration pattern for calls, vibration patterns for notifications, access Home Screen Settings from the device Settings app. Additionally, it brings improved Privacy Settings to turn off customization services like ads, custom calling backgrounds, improved Clock app with Bedtime mode and wake up alarms, Samsung Free app, etc.
Check OTA Updates
As the firmware update is rolling out in an incremental way, you may not receive the OTA update notification at the same time. It’s better to manually check for the OTA update from the device Settings > System > System Updates > Check for Updates. If there is an update available, just Download and Install it.
