The Lenovo-owned Motorola has started rolling out a new software update for Moto G6 Play (Codenamed Ashley) with the PPPS29.118-17-1-1 build number. Moto G6 Play came with HD+ display, Android 8.0 Oreo, Snapdragon 430 SoC, up to 3GB of RAM, and more. It was launched as a budget segment entry-level device with an affordable price tag. The latest software update brings the August 2019 patch for Moto G6 Play [US Variant XT1922-9]. It based on Android 9 Pie OS version. Motorola has fixed the system bugs and system performance improvements to this device.
The software update is rolling out via OTA (over-the-air) running stock firmware to the Moto G6 Play device with the PPPS29.118-17-1-1 software version. Check Software OTA Update on Moto G6 Play
If you’re not receiving the latest software update on your device, then follow the below steps properly and check OTA update manually.
- Make sure your device is fully charged and connected to a working Wi-Fi network.
- Swipe down from the Notification bar, then tap the Settings icon.
- Scroll to and tap About phone > System updates.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
- Tap Restart Now after the software installs to automatically restart your device.
To verify the software update
- Swipe down from the Notification bar, then tap the Settings icon.
- Scroll to and tap About phone.
- The device has the latest software if the Android version, Build number, and Baseband version matches the latest update details.

Steps to Install PPPS29.118-17-1-1 Update on Moto G6 Play
Before installing the firmware update, make sure to follow the pre-requirements and install the necessary drivers and tools on your PC. After following the requirements properly, head over to the updating process.
Pre-Requirements:
- This ROM file and guide are supported only for Motorola Moto G6 Play US variant. Don’t try it on other devices.
- You will require a PC/Laptop and a USB cable to connect your phone with the computer.
- Download and Install the latest Motorola USB Drivers for Windows and MAC. [For All Android USB Drivers]
- Download and extract the ADB fastboot tool on your PC (Fastboot Method)
- Make sure to charge the device battery up to 60% at least.
- Take a complete Backup Your Android Phone (No Root).
Instructions to Install: via ADB Sideload Method
- Now, go to the folder where you have extracted the ADB and Fastboot Tools.
- Download Stock ROM for Moto from the above list of Moto Stock Firmware Collections and save it in ADB folder.
- Now, reboot Motorola smartphone to Recovery Mode.
- Select Apply Update from ADB.
- Plug the phone into PC using USB Cable, then open a command prompt window by pressing Shift Key + Right Mouse Click.
- Now execute the below command in CMD screen.
adb sideload Filename.zip
- Wait until the installation process completes.
- Once the installation process completed. Reboot the phone.
- That’s it. Done.
Manually Update Moto G6 Play Stock Firmware via Recovery
- First of all, Go to Settings > About Phone > Tap on Build Number 7 Times. The Developer options will enable.
- Go back to the main Settings menu. Search for the Developer Options > Enable USB Debugging.
- Download the firmware file from above and save it in the device internal storage.
- Now, reboot your Motorola device to Stock Recovery Mode.
- Select Apply Update from SD Card.
- Select the Downloaded ZIP file (ROM File) from SD Card.
- Wait until Installation process Completes.
- Once the installation completed. Reboot your device.
