Design
The device comes in a simple and compact white box with a small Elephone logo printed on a small blue dashboard. Design-wise, the Elephone P8 max features a totally refined design when compared to the Elephone P8. The camera on the rear, for example, has been changed to a square-shaped lens. The volume rockers have also been moved from the left-hand side to the right. A great design modification for right-handed smartphone users.
The bottom of the device so looks like a busy street as it houses more than 3 components of the device – from left to right; microphone, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB port, and the single loudspeaker grill.
There is a huge chunk of bezel at the top of the device and really, I wonder what all that space is for if the earpiece, selfie camera and maybe a couple of sensors are the only occupants. At the bottom of the display, the home button is present and it also acts as the fingerprint sensor.
You’d also notice how smoothly curved and glossy both the device’s front and rear are. The glass covering the display is 2.5D curved and scratch resistant while on the rear, Elephone used aerospace grade aluminum to create a finely polished appearance on the P8 Max. The rear is 3D curved. Holding the device in the hand will feel so heavenly. It’s a finesse!
Display
The display of the Elephone P8 Max is very similar to that found on the ordinary Elephone P8. The device come with a 5.5-inch LCD display and has a FHD resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels) and 401 ppi pixel density.
Processor, OS, and Storage
The Elephone P8 Max comes with the MediaTek MT6750 SoC based on the Cortex-A53 processor technology. The processor comes with 8 cores that are divided into two equal sets based on clock speed. Half of the cores can clock up to 1.5GHz while other half, 1.0GHz.
In terms of storage, the on-board 4GB of RAM takes care of multitasking, while the inherent 64GB of internal memory can store as many movies, songs and other documents you want it to. The dedicated SD card slot can also take up to 128GB of external storage.
Running on the Android Nougat v7.0 platform, expect nothing short of smooth operation speed and efficient battery optimization. You also get to enjoy the split-screen multitasking experience on the Elephone P8 Max.
Camera
The Elephone P8 Max runs a dual-camera system; one on the rear and one on the front. The rear camera uses a 13-megapixels lens while that on the front has a higher 16-megapixel quality. This tells that the P8 Max is a selfie-focused smartphone.
The rear camera comes with dual LED flash but the selfie camera doesn’t.
Battery
To one of the best feature of the Elephone P8 Max, it’s battery. The device carries a large 5,000mAh Lithium Polymer battery that can supply up to 22 hours of talk time. The battery is a big one and non-removable. It is however quite surprising how lightweight the device is (160 grams) despite the battery size.
The P8 Max comes with the Quick Charge technology. So you do not have to worry about taking longer hours to charge such colossal battery.
