Exynos 5100 Launched; Samsung’s First 5G Modem

As we are moving towards a 5G ready world, more and more companies are launching their 5G based products. Intel launched their XMM 8060 5G modem last year, and Qualcomm also announced their X50 modem earlier in February this year. Now, Samsung has also launched their first 5G chipset under their brand Exynos, the Exynos 5100, that is industry’s first 5G modem fully compliant with 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards. The chipset is build on a 10nm peocess.

According to Samsung, their new single chip modem supports multi-mode communication to ensure high efficiency in data transmission. The modem supports sub-6 Ghz spectrum which provides download speeds upto 2 Gbps,  and mmWave spectrum which provides download speed upto 6 Gbps. These speed makes the chipset 1.7 times faster than its predecessor. A whopping speed of 1.6 Gbps can also be obtained on 4G networks.

A release date hasn’t been announced by Samsung yet, but they’ve already confirmed that it will be available on mobile phones by the end of this year.
