Motorola is soon planning to roll Android 8.1 Oreo for its various devices G5, G5Plus, G5S and G5S Plus. In this post we will tell you how to install Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo Firmware Update. The OEM as officially announced of the Oreo system update for Moto G5 and G5Plus. It also officially made available the changelog the devices are going to feature. It’s a great news for all the Moto users as so Android P will be rolling out soon. So, with a stable Android 8.1 Oreo on-board, there are chances Moto devices will enjoy Android P in the future.

Both Moto G5 and G5 Plus will bring the June 2018 security patch update. Usual system stability improvements will also follow the software upgrade. After moving on to Android 81 Oreo the devices will get enhancements such as multitasking features and notification controls. Currently, the users who have enrolled in the beta channel will receive the Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo firmware update. Moto is sending an email notifying the G5 and G5 Plus beta users that it will soon release the OTA for the selected users.

Similarly, Moto G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo firmware is also available via soak tests. If any user has already enrolled into Oreo v8.1 soak tests, then he will receive the OTA update shortly. The stable update will roll out to the public in the coming months.

G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo Firmware

Since we are talking about Android 8.1 Oreo, let’ see what new features it brings for the devices. It packs  Notifications Channels, Picture-In-Picture Mode, Multi-Display Support, Keyboard Navigation, Background Limits, New Wi-Fi Features, Better Icons, Autofill, Cheeseburger Emoji, Neural Networks API etc.

As of now, no stock firmware is available, but we will update the same once it is available. But we will show you how you can flash the Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo Firmware using TWRP image file.

How To Install Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus Android 8.1 Oreo Firmware Using TWRP

First, you have to download the TWRP image files for the respective devices. As of now, we have the TWRP image of G5S Plus.

Also, Oreo v8.1 stock ROM file for all devices are not available yet. We will update the links soon.

Before installing you have to follow certain guidelines.

Pre-Requisites

  • You have to install latest TWRP on your respective devices.
  • You need to unlock the bootloader of your device.
  • Warranty of your device may be void after you unlock the bootloader.
  • Take a full backup of your device
  • Ensure there is 70 % or more battery charge on your device.
  • Install ADB and Fastboot on your system.

Steps of Installation

Step-1 First download Android v8.1 Oreo ROM zip file for respective Moto devices.

Step-2 Transfer the ROM zip file to your device storage.

Step-3 Extract the contents from the ROM zip file.

Step-4 Now, copy the TWRP folder to device storage and paste it into the TWRP folder.

Step-5 Reboot into TWRP recovery. To do it go to the folder where you downloaded the TWRP file.

Step-6 In that folder Hold shift key + right click. Now open the PowerShell window.

Step-7 Now in the command prompt, give the following command.
fast boot C:/twrp.img

Step-8 Now TWRP recovery menu will show up. Tap  “Wipe” > then “swipe to factory reset” to do a factory reset.

Step-9 Now again in the recovery menu, tap Install > select where you have stored your ROM > swipe to confirm the ROM flashing.

Step-10 Now to finish the process, tap Reboot System.

You can follow these process once you have access to the ROM zip files.

So, let’s cross our fingers and wait for the Android 8.1 Oreo update to knock into Moto devices.
