These steps below may help fix Moto Z2 Play screen freezing issues;

  1. Reboot your Android device

When your Moto Z2 play device starts freezing unexpectedly, simply reboot your Android device.  Press down the power button and wait for few seconds (30-60 seconds), and then power the phone back on. This is a form of soft reset. Then try using the device again to see if this simple trick helped to fix the freezing screen. If it doesn’t, then proceed to the next step.

  1. Update Apps always

Apps regularly are redesigned to help in fixing bugs which include phone’s screen freezing. So, therefore, you should endeavour to ensure that your apps are in auto-update mode so that they will be updated based on availability. Using an old version of an app could cause screen freezing. It is also advisable you manually check for updates and then update them when they are available. This helps save battery. To update your device, locate the device’s play store, tap on the menu icon, and then tap on “My apps & games”. A list of all your installed apps will come up. If there’s an available update, you’ll see an icon “Update”. Tap on it one by one until you’ve updated all apps.

  1. Uninstall dormant apps

There are certain apps in our Moto Z2 play devices that you haven’t used for quite a while and you may probably not need them in the nearest future. Kindly delete such apps so as to free up the android device. When the device is clogged up with apps, it tends to cause the phone’s screen to freeze. To close down an app completely, which includes the app’s background services, locate “Apps & Notification” in the Settings menu of your Android device. Tap on “App Info” and select the app you don’t need. You can either uninstall it or ta on “Force Stop” for apps that can’t be uninstalled.

  1. Safe Mode

Safe Mode allows your device run without any third party applications. This can help you to locate the set of apps that are causing the phone screen freezing issue. If your device works smoothly in this safe mode without freezing, simply uninstall the recently installed app(s) that you believe might be causing the issue. Then reboot your phone normally and check if the Moto Z2 Play screen freezing issue has stopped.

  1. Factory Data Reset

This should be the last resort after all other steps have failed to fix your phone freezing problem. Factory Reset wipes out every data and all third party apps from your Android device. It is advisable to ensure that every vital data in your device is backed up before you reset your Android phone to factory settings. This gives you the chance of starting afresh, more like a clean slate, a new device.

This is located in the Backup and Reset menu of your device’s setting. Then tap on Factory Data Reset to reset your phone. You could click on the option Backup and Reset if you would like to back up your data before resetting the device.

Once the process of reset completes, you can try switching on your device to check if the phone screen freezing issue has been resolved. If your problem is fixed then you can restore all the backed up data to your device.

However, if your Moto Z2 play screen freezing issue persists then there may actually be a problem with the device hardware which can be causing the issue. To solve this issue, you’ll need to take your phone to the nearest Motorola Service Centre or any related Service Centre. If your Moto Z2 play device is still under the warranty period, you could get a replacement from the manufacturers.
