Last Updated on April 06, 2018: Verizon Wireless started seeding a new OTA update for Verizon Moto Z and Z Force [Droid] with build number NCLS26.118-23-13-6-5. The update brings the latest Google Security Patch for February month 2018. Along with this update, Verizon also fixed regular bug fixes and improved the performance of this device. This update is still based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and not Android Oreo firmware.

The update is pushed via OTA (Over the air) for all Verizon Moto Z and Z Force [Droid] running Stock Firmware without root. Steps to Install Firmware Manually on Verizon Moto Z and Z Force Droid

Here i will guide on how to install the NCLS26.118-23-13-6-5 February 2018 Security for Verizon Moto Z and Z Force Droid manually using this tutorial given. First, download the full firmware package. Now you can simply follow the below pre-requisite (important) steps before installation process.

Pre-Requisite:

  1. This Update is only for Verizon Moto Z and Z Force users.
  2. Charge your phone to at least 50%.
  3. Install Motorola USB Drivers on your PC/Computer
  4. Take a complete backup of your phone and then proceed.
  5. Download ADB and Fastboot tool.

Instructions to Install:

There are basically two methods to update the device to the latest firmware. First one is by recovery method. The second method is by ADB sideload method.

Method-1 [Recovery Method]

  1. First of all, Unlock the bootloader on your phone. If your device is already unlocked, then skip this step.
  2. Now Install and Setup the ADB Fastboot on your PC.
  3. Move the downloaded Moto Z and Z Force firmware to adb fastboot folder.
  4. Now boot your Verizon Moto Z and Z Force Droid into bootloader mode by turning the phone off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button simultaneously for few seconds until you see the bootloader menu on your phone screen.
  5. Once you are in the bootloader menu.
  6. Connect your Moto Z and Z Force to PC using USB Cable
  7. Open the ADB Folder where you extracted the firmware file.
  8. In the adb folder, hold the Shift Key (keyboard) and click the Right-click button (mouse) on any empty screen inside the ADB Folder.
  9. You will be seeing this option to open the command window.

  1. DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. There are so many posts that about people with battery drain issues, it is not funny. Verizon is not acknowledging the problem (bo surprise there. At the moment, you are probably in more danger from this update than from Spectre or Meltdown!
