HMD Global has launched the Nokia 8.1 handset at a pretty good price tag in India last year. It’s a rebranded version of the Nokia X7 device which was launched in China market. Now, the device base variant of 4GB RAM is available at almost half of the actual price. It offers good specifications and features out-of-the-box. The device runs on Android 9.0 Pie over Android One Stock UI and will be the first Nokia device to get Android 10 update. Currently, HMD Global has released the latest September patch for the Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 8.1 devices in India. Nokia 8.1 September 2019 Security Patch now rolling out.
Google has recently rolled out the latest September 2019 patch to its Pixel devices and Essential Phone along with the Android 10 update. While the Nokia 8.1 update rolls out in incremental mode and only offers the security patch to the device system. The software update comes in a size of 95.4MB and available in India via OTA.
Check for OTA Updates Manually
If you’re using the Nokia 8.1 handset and want to get the latest security patch faster, check for the OTA updates manually on your device. In order to check for OTA update, follow the steps.
- Go to the Device Settings menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap on System.
- Tap on Advanced option and go to System update.
- If the latest September 2019 security patch available on your handset, download and install it.
Otherwise, you have to wait for the official OTA update notification.
There is a critical security vulnerability in the Media framework component which can execute arbitrary code via accessing to user device from a remote attacker. Google has fixed that vulnerability issue by providing September update to all the devices.

The Nokia 8.1 comes with a 6.18-inches Full-HD+ Pure display with a resolution of 2246×1080 pixels and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio along with 500 nits brightness. It’s powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC (2.2GHz) with Adreno 616 GPU. It has two variants of 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. It has a hybrid SIM slot.
On the front side, it has a 20MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens. It also features OIS and EIS, portrait mode, slow-motion, etc. While the secondary rear camera is a 13MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture lens, ZEISS optics, and more. The rear camera can record 4K videos up to 30fps.
