Yesterday, a piece of somewhat unfortunate news reached out to the OnePlus 6 and 6T users. The company has decided to call off the beta testing program for the 2018 flagship killer duo. However, as per the official software maintenance schedule, OnePlus 6 and 6T will keep receiving software updates for one more year at least. While closing the beta program OnePlus is also rolling out the stable OxygenOS 10.3.3 for both 6 and 6T.
Now, that we are talking of the latest stable software for OnePlus 6/6T, let’s get into the details. The OxygenOS 10.3.3 brings the April 2020 security patch. Also, for the Indian market, it enables VoWiFi support for Reliance JIO. The latter is a prominent tele-carrier of India. Now the Voice Over Wi-Fi along with VoLTE will be available in Denmark. Oneplus 6 and 6T users under Telenor carrier will receive this upgrade.
The Indian 6 and 6T users can upgrade their CloudService version to 2.0. The OxygenOS 10.3.3 also brings a plethora of bug fixes and stability improvements to the 2018 mid-range flagship duo. If you were facing a random black screen during gaming it should be fixed now. The fresh update also steps up the GMS package version to that of February 2020.
Currently, Oneplus is rolling out the new software in an incremental manner. So, everyone may not receive it right away. Gradually over the week, everyone should be able to have it.
Let me remind you that if only you are on the stable build 10.3.2 you can install the 10.3.3 build. This means if you have been a beta user, you need to roll back to the stable 10.3.2. As the beta program for OnePlus 6 and 6T is over, they will only receive stable updates from now on.
Let us come back to the software update schedule. Some of you may be worrying about the timeline until which the device will receive the update. Here is the OnePlus software maintenance schedule.
Let’s talk about OnePlus 6 and 6T. Both of these phones released in 2018. Currently, the 6 and 6T are running Android 10. So, going by the above schedule, 6 and 6T should receive Android 11 Update this year. Then until 2021 fall, it will keep receiving the software update in a bi-monthly manner. It’s not bad at all.
OnePlus 6T is one of the finest releases of the Chinese OEM. I use the device since 2018 and till now it faced no hiccups. In fact, the device is still selling right now over various e-commerce portals. If you get one right now, you can upgrade to Android 10. I am pretty sure the 6T will see a step up to Android 11 as well. So, you can have a flagship experience at an affordable price.
As the OnePlus 7 and 8 series have made a strong presence in the Android market, naturally the company would put more focus on the new phones. The older devices will just get their fair share of maintenance. Thankfully, OnePlus has not yet discontinued the 6 and 6T. However, it may discontinue them in the next year. On the official website, the OnePlus 6T is still available for purchase. Nevertheless, discontinued or not, the OnePlus 6 series will always be that affordable flagship killer for which OnePlus gained its popularity in the Android market.
So, have you received the new OxygenOS 10.3.3. yet? Do you use OnePlus 6 or 6T.? What’s your experience with those smartphones.? Share your views with us in the comments section.
