Back in December 2019, Poco’s Head Alvin Tse has tweeted that a new Poco smartphone arrives in the year 2020. Soon after the tweet went online, it was taken back. A few days before, Xiaomi has filed a trademark application for the upcoming Poco F2 smartphone in China. This gave a hint that the smartphone will be launching soon. Back in 2018, Xiaomi filed a trademark application for Poco F1 in China. Soon after two months, Poco launches the Poco F1 smartphone in India. This time too, we’re expecting the new Poco F2 device to launch somewhere around March 2020.
Surprisingly a new device named Poco X2 has appeared in the GeekBench listing which also reveals some key specifications of the smartphone. The GeekBench listing reveals that the Poco X2 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor which clocks at 1.88GHz. This SoC pairs with 8GB of RAM, and in the listing it mentions “Phoenixin” in the motherboard field instead of the name of the chipset.
The upcoming Poco X2 runs on Android 10 onboard on top of MIUI 11. Talking about the scores obtained by the device, it scores 547 points in the Single-Core Scores and 1767 points in the Multi-Core Scores.
Poco X2; Rebranded Redmi K30?
Is the Poco X2; a rebranded Redmi K30 for India? Well back in November 2019, XDA Developers revealed a report which reveals some of the key specifications of the Redmi K30 before it had launched. The device contains a codename as “Phoenix” and the report also includes that it will equip a 120Hz refresh rate screen with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and Sony IMX 686 sensor. Later the codenamed “Phoenix” was launched as Redmi K30. Similarly, the Redmi K20 Pro’s codename was “Raphael” and in India, the Redmi K20 sports a codename of “Raphaelin”. The difference was “in” which stands for India.
Since the Redmi K30 has “Phoenix” codename and the Poco X2 has a codename “Phoenixin”. This evidence suggests that the upcoming Poco smartphone will be the rebranded Redmi K30 for India. Earlier the Redmi K30 with a model number M191G7BI got certification from BIS [Bureau of Indian Standards]. The BIS certification also suggests that the smartphone launches soon in India. So according to the reports which are available right now, we can say that the Poco F1’s successor will have the name Poco X2.
