The Moto Z2 Force is a two-year-old Motorola device which surprisingly has now started receiving the Android 9 Pie based OS. The phone despite being too old is a powerhouse and devoiding it of the Android 9 Pie update would have been a wrong move. But luckily, Motorola has rolled out the Android 9 Pie update for the Z2 Force. According to XDA member Danilo Pascal, the build number of the new update is PPx29.159-10 and it also brings with it the May 2019 security patch as well.
One thing to note is that this update is till now been rolled out in Brazil. But, from any other sources, it is still not much clear that what all improvements and new features this update might bring to the Motorola Z2 Force as there is no official changelog or any data available for that. However, I have done my research and could find out some of the features that this update has brought along with it. Motorola has rolled out this update in Brazil as it is one of the largest user bases for the company. Besides, Motorola is a company that does take its time in rolling out system updates and is not very much known for frequent updates or fixes.
Quick Specs Overview
The Moto Z2 Force is a two-year-old smartphone from the Motorola company yet, it has some specs that can still be considered as good for the present gen smartphones. The phones come packed with the Snapdragon 835 chipset which is coupled with a 4GB of RAM. The device has an internal storage of 64GB and it can be expanded up to 200GB via a microSD. The GPU used in this device is the Adreno 540 which is good for visualization aspects of the device. The display is a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display which is sharp and produces rich black color and also has a resolution of 1440×2560.
In the camera department, it has a dual camera set up at the rear with two 12 MP shooters, and in the front, it houses a 5 MP shooter with flash as well. The device runs on Android 8.0 OS which now has received the Android 9 Pie update specifically in Brazil and is expected to roll out very soon in other regions as well.
What’s New in the Update?
As long as I have researched and gathered information from sources the company has added quite a few new features with this update. The update is heavy and it brings along new User Interface for the Motorola Z2 Force. There are a new Navigation and recent app button. Moreover, this update also brings the Do Not Disturb Mode, adaptive brightness/battery, simplified volume control, revamped split screen, a revamped settings menu and much more.
How to Update?
If you have not unlocked your bootloader and have never rooted your device then, it is advised to wait for the official Over The Air update that the company will roll out. Moreover, all the devices will not be updated at once and it will be eventually rolled out to other devices in Brazil and then in other regions. To update or to check whether the update has arrived for your device then follow the steps below;
Settings > System > System updates
The update might be a preplanned sequence as the Moto Z3 got its Android 9 update in the month of January this year and then the Moto Z2 Play was updated. After that now, we are getting updates for the Moto Z2 Force as well. It is nice that the company has rolled out the Android 9 Pie update for an older device because, it would have been a shame if a device which is still powerful, did not run the Pie OS.
