The device came with budget specifications and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box The handset received the Android 9.0 Pie update last year and currently, a new security patch update started rolling out for Verizon variants in USA. Yes, the update brings February 2020 Patch with a new software version PDPS29.118-67-5 based on Android 9.0 Pie.
As the update is rolling out via OTA in a gradual process, it may take a few days to hit the update all units properly. However, you can manually check for OTA updates via the device Settings > System > Advanced > System Updates. If you’re interested in this new update including software version PDPS29.118-67-5, then you should check the OTA update on an interval basis to get the update notification.
The February 2020 Android Security Patch brings bug fixes and system security improvements for better user experience & stability. Though Verizon has already pushed the latest Android 9.0 Pie update, the Verizon Moto G6 Play device users are waiting for the Android 10 update.
To recall, the Moto G6 Play features a 5.7-inches display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 2/3GB of RAM. The phone packs 16/32GB internal memory which can also be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The camera on the Moto G6 Play comes with 13MP with an LED flash rear camera and 5/8MP front shooting camera for selfies. The handset came out of the box with Android 8.0 Oreo and backed by a Non-removable Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging. It also has a Fingerprint sensor on the back.
