After months of rumors, leaks and teaser, Xiaomi officially unveiled the Mi Mix 3 flagship smartphone at a product launch event in Beijing, China. The company’s latest flagship smartphone comes with a magnetic slider design which makes it notch-less and bezel-less display phone. This is the Xiaomi’s second smartphone that featured with 10 GB of RAM on board, first one is Xiaomi’s Black Shark Helo gaming smartphone. The phone also comes with 4 cameras, two cameras on the front and two cameras on the back side of the phone.
Design and Display
The body dimensions of the Xiaomi MI Mix 3 are 157.9 x 74.7 x 8.5 mm and it weighs 218 grams. The phone comes with a ceramic back panel which is curved from all sides. The has a glass panel on the front along with 7000 series aluminum frame. The Mi Mix 3 available in Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, and Onyx Black color options. It comes with 6.4-inch AMOLED display panel which supports 2340 x 1080 pixels of resolution and offers 19.5:9 aspect ratio. At the event, the company claimed that the phone supports 93.4% screen to body ratio. The display of the phone also comes with 60000:1 contrast ratio, 600nits brightness and 103.8 percent NTSC color gamut other features.
The phone comes with a slider design that carries dual selfie cameras. You can customize it to launch different apps, including open selfie camera, launch WeChat, answer phone calls and more.
Processor and Memory
The phone powered by Octa-Core CPU under the hood which clocks in two different speed. The first four Kryo 385 Gold cores clocks at 2.8 GHz and other 4 four Kryo 385 Silver clocks at 1.7 GHz. There is Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 (10 nm) chipset on board along with Adreno 630 Graphics Processing Unit for better graphics experience. The company announced several RAM and ROM variants of the Mi Mix 3. The first base model comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage. The second model comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage. The third model of Mi Mix 3 flagship smartphone has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB internal storage. There is a top model that comes with 10 GB of RAM and 512 GB internal storage.
Unfortunately, there is no micro SD card slot on board. The phone runs on Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie Mobile operating system out of the box. The Android Pie OS based on MIUI 10 which running on top.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 flagship smartphone comes with vertically placed dual camera sensors on the back side along with LED flash, HDR and panorama features. On the back side, there is 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 main camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size, Dual Pixel PDAF, 4-axis OIS and 1/2.55″ lens size. The rear main camera coupled with 12-megapixel telephoto Samsung S5k3M3+ secondary camera sensor with f/2.4 aperture, 1/3.4″ lens size and 1.0µm pixel size. The rear camera supports portrait mode and AI features.
The Mi Mix 3 comes with a new Night Mode for handheld super night scene photography. The night mode will allow you to take long exposure pictures. This feature looks similar to the Huawei night mode feature that introduced earlier this year. At the event, the company compares the Mi Mix 3 Night mode pictures side-by-side with Huawei P20 Pro Night Mode pictures. The company also confirmed that you can shoot slow-mo videos at 960 fps with auto background music with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 rear camera, thanks to the AI powered engine.
In terms of front camera, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 featured with Mechanical pop-up dual front facing camera sensors for selfies along with dedicated LED flash. There area 24-megapixel main Sony IMX576 camera with 1.8µm pixel size and 2-megapixel secondary depth camera sensor. The front cameras support AI features for selfies.
At the event, the company said the Mi Mix 3 test on DxOMark photography and videography benchmarks and it scored 108 and 93 points respectively.
Battery and other features
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 packed with Non-removable Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery inside the body. It supports fast battery charging (Quick Charge 4.0+) and also decent 10W wireless charging feature. There is a fingerprint scanner on the back side of the phone. The phone comes with a hardware button on the left side for the Xiao AI assistant.
In terms of connectivity, the Mi Mix 3 comes with Dual SIM, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP, aptX HD, LE, GPS with dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS, NFC, and USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector features. It has accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass sensors.
The company said it will launch the Xiaomi Mi Mix 5G version in Europe. But it’s only coming in Q1 of 2019. However, there is no word for other markets.
Price and availability
Xiaomi launches the base mode of the Mi Mix 3 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 Gb internal storage at CNY 3,299 ($474/€420)price tag. The 8 GB RAM and 128 Gb internal storage Mi Mix 3 available at CNY 3,599 ($515/€450) price tag. The Mi Mix 3 with 8 Gb RAM and 256 GB model available at CNY 3,999 ($575/€505) price tag. All the phone models will have a 10W wireless charger and a protective case inside the retail package.
The 10 GB of RAM and 512 GB internal storage model available at CNY 4,999 ($720/€630) price tag which also called Forbidden City edition. This model will also come with a gold-plated statue of a mythical Chinese creature, 10W wireless charger and Xiaomi bus card in the retail box.
The regular variants of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 are available for pre order and the sale will go live on November 1st. The company confirmed that the fancy Forbidden City edition will available at the end of the next month.
