Garmin makes excellent smartwatches and fitness trackers, and the Forerunner 255 is now a multisport triathlon watch. Sure, it’s a running watch, but you can use it while swimming or biking featuring Garmin’s high-end multi-band/dual-frequency GPS chipset. But some of the Garmin Forerunner 255 users reported that they are experiencing issues with the watch not turning on or taking too much time to turn on. 1. Check the charging ports

The Garmin Forerunner 255 is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. But before you replace a faulty battery, try cleaning the charging points first. If the charging ports are clogged or dirty, it is likely the cause why the Garmin forerunner 255 won’t turn on.

Clean charging points by rubbing alcohol using a fabric or cotton swab. For hard-to-remove dirt, use a small brush to clean the dirt.

After cleaning, check for battery issues by plugging Garmin into a power source and charging it for an hour. If the watch still won’t turn on, there may be issues with the battery. And you may need to replace the battery using the Garmin RMA method.

2. Make sure the charging cable is intact

To check if your watch is getting power, plug the charging cable into the Garmin watch. Use the original charging cable that comes with the box. Plug the other end of the charging cable into a power source.

Check if a green-light-flicks. This means the watch is charging. After a few minutes, power on Garmin watch and check if the issue still occurs.

If the watch still doesn’t turn on, check the power cable for any signs of damage. If an exposed wire is visible or the power cable is faulty, it may cause the watch battery to die. You may need to buy a new one and try charging your watch to see if it resolves the issue.

3. Do a soft reset

4. Check for battery-draining apps

5. Update Software

If after performing a soft reset and still Garmin device will not turn on, do a hard reset instead. There could be a software issue on the device which is why it is not turning on but charging. Outdated software can cause issues on your device. It is recommended to always update to the latest version of Garmin Software using Garmin Express to prevent problems with your device.
