Fix: theHunter Call of the Wild Multiplayer Not Working or Greyed Out

How to Fix the Hunter Call of the Wild Multiplayer Not Working or Greyed Out?

Restart PC:

As simple as it may sound, sometimes, when you encounter an issue for the first time, a simple restart is enough to fix it. Even with the Hunter Call of the Wild Multiplayer not working, try a force restart. For this, press and hold the power button on your PC until your computer shuts down and restarts itself.

Try the next solution if you encounter the white screen issue after the restart.

Reset router:

Resetting the router/modem is the first solution anyone would try if they are dealing with WiFi issues.

For this, cut off the power supply to the router/modem and wait a few minutes. After that, supply power to it again and restart it. This will restart your device. Now, try connecting to the WiFi again. If you are still facing issues relating to the internet and The Hunter Call of the Wild, try the next solution mentioned below.

Update router’s firmware:

Properly connect your computer to the router using the Ethernet cable. Ensure the connection is stable, or your router may run into problems if the connection is broken during the update.

  • Open up a browser on your computer.
  • Enter the IP address of your router that you noted down before into the web browser’s address bar.
  • A page will show up asking for a username and password. You will find this information in the router manual you got when you purchased the router.
  • Once you log in, get into the Firmware or Router update section.
  • Here, you will see the firmware version currently installed on your computer.
  • Now, open up a new tab in your web browser. Visit your router manufacturer’s website and go to the support section.
  • Here, find your router model and the firmware update that was last released. If your firmware version is lower than what is available on your manufacturer’s website, download that update on your computer.
  • The update should come in a zip folder. Extract that folder in any location of your computer that you prefer.
  • Go back to the previous tab where you had the router update opened up.
  • Here, you will see a browse or choose the file option. Click on it and choose the file you downloaded on your computer.
  • Then, start the update process and wait for it to complete. Make sure there are no interruptions during the installation.

After the update is installed, restart your router, which will run in the latest firmware you installed.

Now try using the multiplayer mode on The Hunter Call of the Wild game. If it is still not working, move on to the next given solution.

Disable Antivirus:

Third-party security applications such as antiviruses sometimes prevent even network connections, suspecting them as potential threats. Not every antivirus application has this problem, though. There are only a few out there that might block out connections. So, if you are using an antivirus, try disabling it entirely. To do so, open up the antivirus program and disable the real-time protection feature.

Now try again using the multiplayer mode on the Hunter Call of the Wild game. If it is still not working, move on to the next given solution.

Disable Windows Firewall:

Just like the antivirus program, sometimes even Windows Firewall blocks out connections. So try changing your Windows Firewall settings and see if that works.

  • Click on the search bar and search for “Control Panel.”
  • Open it up once it shows up in the results.
  • Click on the view by option in the control panel window and choose “Large icons” in the drop-down menu.
  • Click on Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Click on the “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall” option on the left side of the window.
  • Look for the “javaw.exe” entry in the allowed apps and features list. You may have one or multiple javaw.exe entries. There will be a checkbox next to it. Ensure a check is next to each of the “javaw.exe” entries. If unchecked, click the “Change settings” button and manually check the entry.

If all the javaw.exe entries are checked, but still you cannot use the multiplayer mode, try the next solution.

Update your network drivers:

Network drivers are responsible for your system’s network and connectivity. If your driver files are corrupted or outdated, the game will have a problem loading the multiplayer mode. So, you should try updating your network drivers and see if that solves your issue.

There are three things you can do to update your network drivers. You can let Windows automatically get the latest driver and install it. You can download it from the manufacturer’s site or use a third-party driver application.

  • Press Windows Key + X and choose “Device Manager” from the list of options.
  • Expand “Network adapter” in the device manager window.
  • Inside the network adapter section, you will see your network components.
  • Right-click on each of these and choose “Update Driver.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and let Windows download the latest network driver files.

If Windows cannot detect any files for update, try downloading it manually. Head to your PC manufacturer’s website and search for your system’s drivers using your model number. Download the latest network driver setup from that site and install these driver files on your computer.

If you cannot find any new network adapter driver update setup on your manufacturer’s website, opt for a third-party application that automatically searches for an update for your drivers and installs them directly onto your PC.

Now try again using the multiplayer mode on The Hunter Call of the Wild game. If it is still not working, move on to the next given solution.

Check your background applications:

Sometimes, a particular application might cause your connectivity issues on Steam. So, you have to disable all the start and background processes to see if that is the reason behind your connectivity issues.

  • Press and hold Windows Key+R, enter msconfig in the box, and press Enter.
  • Click the services tab, check to hide all Microsoft services, and then click the Disable All button.
  • Now click on the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager.
  • A list of applications will appear here under the task manager startup tab. Right-click on all of them and select disable.
  • After disabling all apps on the task manager’s startup tab, close the task manager.
  • Now, in the msconfig windows, click on apply and OK.

Now try again using the multiplayer mode on The Hunter Call of the Wild game. If it is still not working, move on to the next given solution.

Disable VPN/ Proxy:

If you have proxy server settings for your connection or use a VPN client while connecting to the internet, try disabling it. After disabling the proxy or VPN, The Hunter Call of the Wild multiplayer mode should run fine on your system.

How to Remove Proxy:

  • Press the Windows key + R and open up the Run dialog box. Here, enter “ms-settings:network-proxy” and hit enter. This will open up proxy settings on your PC.
  • On the right side, look for the option that reads “Manual Proxy setup.”
  • Inside this setup, look for the option” Use a proxy server” and uncheck the box next to it.
  • Click on OK and then restart the system.

How to Remove VPN Client:

  • Press and hold the Windows Key + R buttons and open a Run dialog box. Enter “appwiz.cpl” in that dialog box and press the enter button.
  • This will open up the Program and Features list. From the list, look for the VPN client that you currently have on your system, right-click on it, and select Uninstall.
  • After successfully uninstalling the VPN client, restart your PC.

Automatically Detect LAN Settings:

  • Click on the search box and search for Internet Options.
  • Open Internet Options and then click on the Connections tab on top.
  • Next, click on LAN settings.
  • Check the box next to Automatically detect settings in the window that pops up.
  • Click on Apply and save the changes.

Now, try re-running your game and see if the problem still exists. If it does, then try the next fix.

Verify The Integrity Of Game Files:

You can check the files of your game directly from Steam. For this,

  • Open Steam and go to the library.
  • Right-click on The Huner Call of the Wild and click on properties.
  • Click on the tab local files, and click on the button “Verify integrity of game files.”
  • Wait till the verification is done and see if there is an issue with your game files.

If any missing file report shows up, reinstall the game, and if nothing comes up, move on to the next fix.

Check if there are any blocked ports:

Some ISPs put blocks on specific ports. So try contacting your ISP and check for any blocks from their end. If there is some block on the game’s servers, sort it out with your ISP.

Changing the network’s DNS configuration:

Several users suffering from the multiplayer mode not working have reported that changing over from the default DNS to Google’s DNS solved their issue. If none of the abovementioned methods worked for you, this will do the job.

  • Press and hold Windows Key + R and enter “ncpa.cpl” here without the quotes.
  • Press the Enter Key or click on the OK button. This will take you to Network Connections.
  • Here, you will see the network your system is currently connected to. Right-click on it and choose “Properties.”
  • Now click on the “Networking” tab, and under Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click on the button “Properties.”
  • Now click on the General Tab on this menu, and turn the toggle on for “Use the following DNS server addresses.”
  • Under here, enter 8.8.8.8 as the preferred DNS server(Google’s DNS) and 8.8.4.4 as the Alternate DNS server.
  • Click on the OK button below, and it will save the changes that you have made.
  • Click on the Windows Search bar below and type “cmd” here. Once it appears in the search results, press and hold Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys together. You will see a popup asking for permission to allow access. Click on Yes here.
  • Now, the cmd window will show up on your screen. Enter the command “ipconfig /flushdns” in the command prompt window here and press the Enter button.
  • This will initiate the flushing of the DNS cache. Once the process is complete, you will see the message “Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache” on the command prompt window. This means that the process is now complete.
