Although Waze doesn’t offer a built-in map downloading or offline maps functionality, there is an easy workaround to use Waze offline. It’s worth mentioning that without using the internet, the Waze app won’t provide you the updated traffic data and updates for your selected route. But that’s okay and users will need to connect the app to the internet later to update the traffic data.

  1. Open the Waze app on your device.
  2. Tap on the Search icon from the bottom left corner.
  3. Next, tap on the Settings icon from the top left corner.
  4. Tap on Display & map from the Advanced settings option.
  5. Select Data transfer > Check whether the Download traffic info is enabled or not. [If not enabled, turn it on]
  6. Now, go back to the Waze home screen > Input the address on the search bar to start searching and using navigation.
  7. According to the given starting point and ending point, the Waze app will create a route and show it to you.
  8. Additionally, you can add and use multiple stops between the selected route for your ease.

Note: The created route data will be stored in the Waze app cache until you close the app.

How to Use Google Maps Offline to Save Internet Data

For Google Maps users, there are two possible ways to set and use the offline navigation system easily. Google’s offline map feature automatically starts updating the expiring map location whenever the device gets connected to the internet. In case, the device isn’t connected to the internet, and Google Maps is unable to update the data, you’ll get a notification from the app.

Note: Google Offline Maps allow users to save up to 20 individual offline maps once at a time and each offline map has a lifespan of one month. After that, the selected offline Google Maps will be automatically expired and requires an update.

Method 1: Use Search Option

  • Open the Google Maps application on the device.
  • If prompted, sign in to your Google account.
  • Now, tap on the search bar and input the desired location (start and endpoint).
  • Tap on More Info at the bottom of the map > Here you can see the detailed info about the destination.
  • You can share, save, go to the website, and download the map. Tap on the Download button.
  • You’ll see a new window that will ask “Download a map of this area?”.
  • Drag the blue box to your respective location to select it for offline use.
  • Depending on the map area, further data will be downloaded by tapping on the Download button.
  • Next, you’ll see a download notification with the status in the notification panel. Just wait for the map to download completely.
  • Once done, you’re good to go.

Method 2: Use Offline Maps

Alternatively, you can follow this method to use the dedicated offline maps in the Google Maps app.

  • Open the Google Maps app > If prompted, sign in to your Google account.
  • Now, tap on the Menu icon from the top left corner.
  • Tap on the Offline maps option from the side menu.
  • Then tap on Select Your Own Map to download and save the offline map whatever you selected.
  • You’ll see a new window that will ask “Download a map of this area?”.
  • Once the location selected by using the blue box, tap on the Download button at the bottom right corner.
  • You’ll see the notification status of the map downloading.
  • Let the process to complete.
  • Once done, start using the offline map of your respective area without any internet connection.
