9. Close Unnecessary Background Tasks

  • Locate the Steam app from the list of installed programs.
  • Now, click on the three horizontal dots next to Steam.
  • Select Uninstall > Confirm it by clicking on Uninstall again.
  • Once the Steam client is uninstalled, restart the PC.
  • Then go to the official Steam page and download the Steam installer.
  • Finally, reinstall the Steam launcher & open it > Sign into the account and reinstall the games.

For Mac:

  • If the Steam app is running, click on the Steam menu > Quit Steam to exit it.
  • Now, open Applications and drag Steam to the Trash.
  • Click on Go in the menu bar > Press and hold the Option key to see the Library folder.
  • Open the library folder from the drop-down menu.
  • Then navigate to Library/Application Support/Steam.
  • Delete the Steam data from your computer with one of the following options:
    • If you don’t want to lose any game data, ensure to delete all files and folders in the /Steam directory.
  • Next, Go to Finder > Click on Empty Trash > Empty the Trash.
  • Once Steam is uninstalled, go to the official Steam page and reinstall the client.
