What is DLL File and why it is important.?

DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library. They are usually the extensions of applications. The common code between various applications is placed in an extension executable called DLL. The concept of DLL is present in Windows and Linux as well.  System side DLLs are present with the OS in the form of device drivers.

Here are some of the advantages of the DLL file. There is no requirement of additional memory at runtime or no additional disk space due to the presence of the common binary file. All the applications make use of the common code which the DLL provides. It also prevents memory overload in the system. When an application loads, the OS will load one instance of the DLL. Later for subsequent applications, it shares the memory pages of the DLL with the process address space.
