How to fix the BeReal camera not working?

The issue with the camera not working is indeed a software issue. But before jumping to that conclusion, check whether other apps can use the camera on your phone.

Restart your phone:

As simple as it may sound, a device sometimes needs a system restart. And even with your BeReal issue, that could work.

For iPhone:

  • Press and hold the power button and the volume plus button.
  • The power menu will show up on your screen. Slide the power control to turn off your iPhone.
  • After that, press the power button to turn on your phone again.

For Android:

  • Press and hold the power button and the volume plus button.
  • The power menu will show up on your screen. Tap on restart.

Try the next solution if the issue is not resolved after restart.

Check your internet connection:

None of the solutions mentioned in this article will work if you have a  faulty internet connection. The BeReal application requires an internet connection to function correctly with all its features.

To reset your WiFi connection, you can even reset your router. To do that, remove the router from the power source, wait a while and then turn it on again. And to check the connection, you could connect some other device to the WiFi and check whether the internet connection is working correctly.

If you do not have WiFi and are using Cellular data, you need to check whether you have an active data plan. If your internet plan has expired or you do not have enough data balance on your connection, you won’t get a consistent internet connection for BeReal.

After this, ensure that you have enabled mobile or cellular data for BeReal. There is a possibility that your App is set to connect to the internet only via WiFi. You need to change it to mobile data if you need a constant and continuous connection.

For iPhone:

  • Open the Settings App and go to the Cellular or Mobile Data section.
  • Here, turn on the mobile data and scroll down the screen to the BeReal application.
  • Once you see it, please tap on the toggle next to it to turn on mobile data.

For Android:

  • Open up Settings.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Select BeReal.
  • Go to Data Usage.
  • Ensure the toggle to disable WiFi and Mobile data is turned off.

If even this does not help you out, try the next solution.

Restart the application:

In most cases, forcefully terminating and restarting an application from scratch can also solve your application abnormality issue.

For iPhone:

  • Slide up from the bottom of your screen and open the recent apps menu.
  • Find BeReal on this screen and swipe it up to terminate from the foreground and background.

For Android:

  • Open up Settings on your phone.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Find BeReal in the list of applications that show up.
  • Once you find it, tap on it and choose Force Stop.
  • Now, go back to your app menu and open BeReal again.

If restarting the application does not help you, try the next solution.

Check permissions:

Every application requires permission to access the camera on a smartphone. If BeReal does not have this permission enabled, it won’t be able to use the camera at all.

For iPhone:

  • Open up Settings on your iPhone.
  • Scroll and find the App BeReal.
  • Tap on it and enable the toggle for the camera.

For Android:

  • Open up Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Find BeReal in the list and then tap on it.
  • Select permissions.
  • Ensure the camera permission toggle is turned on.

If your camera permissions are turned on for BeReal, but you still can’t use the camera, try the next solution.

Clear app cache:

The cache for every application is stored on a smartphone to ensure a fast and seamless experience. But if there is any inconsistency with that data would also affect the App’s general functionality. And BeReal, with its cache data, is no exception. So to fix the camera issue, you should also try clearing the app cache.

  • Open up Settings on your phone.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Find BeReal in the list of apps that show up. Once you find it, tap on it.
  • Then tap on Storage.
  • Tap on Clear cache.
  • Finally, tap on clear cache again to confirm your action.

Try the next solution if clearing the cache data does not fix your camera problem with BeReal.

Reinstall the application:

If none of the above solutions worked for you, you should try reinstalling the App entirely.

For iPhone:

  • Go to the Settings App.
  • Tap on General.
  • Choose iPhone Storage.
  • Find the BeReal app in the list.
  • Then tap on it and select Delete.
  • After that, install the BeReal app on your iPhone using the App Store.

For Android:

  • Open up Settings on your phone.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Find BeReal in the list of apps that show up. Once you find it, tap on it.
  • Tap on Uninstall.
  • Then tap on uninstall again to confirm your action.
  • Wait till the uninstallation is complete. After that, restart your phone.
  • After the restart, open Google Play Store on your phone.
  • Search for BeReal.
  • Once it shows up in the results section, tap on it.
  • Then tap on the App to open it up. You will see an install button next to it.
  • Tap on the install button and wait till the installation is complete.
