Fix: Rust Not Showing Servers

The chances are high that an outdated game version, an outdated game client, missing or corrupted game files, etc might be a potential reason behind issues with the not showing servers.

Luckily, there are a couple of possible workarounds mentioned below that should come in handy. Make sure to follow all methods one by one until the problem gets fixed. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump into it.

1. Reboot Rust and the PC

First of all, exit the game & exit the Steam client. Next, you’ll have to restart your PC to apply changes. This step will help the system to remove temporary glitches whatsoever.

2. Run Rust and Steam as an administrator

The second thing you should do is to run the Rust game application and Steam as an administrator on the PC by following the steps below to allow the User Account Control (UAC) privilege. It helps the system to run the game file as well as the game launcher to avoid compatibility issues.

  • Right-click on the Rust application on your PC.
  • Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.

  • Make sure to click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox to select it.
  • Once done, click on Apply > Then select OK to save changes.

Make sure to do the same steps for the Steam client also. It’ll help the Steam launcher to run the game without any interruption from UAC.

3. Check for Steam Launcher Updates

You should also check for the Steam launcher updates manually by following the steps below to ensure there is no issue with the outdated client version. It’ll also fix multiple issues with the game launching as well as in-game performances like connecting to the game servers.

  • Close the Steam client > Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys to open Task Manager.
  • Click on the Processes tab > Select the Steam.exe task.
  • Select End Task to force close the Steam launcher task completely.
  • Once done, reboot the PC to apply changes.

4. Update the Rust Game

If you haven’t updated your Rust game for a while and have some issues with launching or connecting to the servers, then follow the steps below to update the game patch version to the latest version. An outdated game version might trigger multiple conflicts that we can’t deny.

  • Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
  • Click on Rust from the left pane > It’ll automatically search for the available update.
  • If there is an update available, click on Update.
  • Wait for some time to install the update.
  • Once done, exit the Steam launcher, and reboot the PC.

5. Verify and Repair Game Files

Sometimes the installed game files on the PC might get corrupted or missing which might trigger multiple issues with the game launching or connecting to the servers. Verifying and repairing the installed game files on the system is recommended by following the steps below to fix several issues.

  • Launch the Steam client > Click on Library.
  • Right-click on Rust from the list of installed games.
  • Click on Properties > Go to the Local Files tab.

  • Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • You’ll have to wait for the process until it gets completed.
  • Once done, reboot your PC to apply changes.

6. Disable Windows Firewall

Sometimes your antivirus program or firewall protection on the Windows system can prevent the game files from connecting to the ongoing servers and might prevent the application from launching correctly. It’s highly recommended to disable the security protection temporarily and then check for the issue again.

  • Click on the Start Menu > Type firewall.
  • Select Windows Defender Firewall from the search result.
  • Now, click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off from the left pane.

  • A new page will open > Select the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) option for both the Private & Public Network Settings.
  • Once selected, click on OK to save changes.
  • Finally, restart your PC to apply changes.

7. Try Checking Steam Server Settings

The Rust game uses the Steam master server for server collection. Therefore, you should set the ‘Server browser pings / minute’ to a minimum of 5000 to ensure the game servers are reachable via Steam quite easily.

  • Open the Steam client > Click on Steam from the top-left corner.
  • Click on Settings > Go to the In-Game section from the left pane.
