So in this article, we will cover all the solutions that you can try from your end to resolve the Moisture detected error on your Samsung S22 and Samsung S22 Plus device. So without any further ado, let’s get into it.

Fix: Samsung S22 and S22 Plus Moisture Detected Error

How to Fix Samsung S22 and S22 Plus Moisture Detected Error?

Samsung installs a moisture detection sensor in the charging port of their devices. This is because the charging port is the location where you connect your charger and actual current flows through it. Moisture here could result in a short circuit. So Samsung tries to prevent it by installing a moisture detection sensor in the USB port. When there is any moisture in the USB port, the user sees a moisture detection in the notification panel along with a waterdrop symbol in the status bar.

Let’s take a look at how we can get rid of this notification from your Samsung Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus device.

Verify whether the charging port is damaged or not:

When the moisture detection error or notification shows up in a Samsung device, the charging function of the phone stops entirely to stop any possible short circuit. But this error could creep up even when there is no water damage if the charging cable or USB port itself is damaged in some way. So you need to first verify that it is indeed a moisture issue and not a hardware issue.

To do this, take your charger to some other smartphone and start charging that smartphone with it. If the other phone starts charging, we can be certain that the issue is not with the cable. If it is not charging even the other smartphone, then change the cable and try again. Once you get an adapter and cable that actually charge up some devices, but that does not work with your Samsung S22 or S22 Plus device, you have your answer. Either the USB port is damaged in this scenario, or there is some water inside it. Before concluding that the USB port is damaged, try all the simple solutions mentioned below to clear out the moisture.

Check if the liquid is there

If you recently introduced your smartphone to any water, or you used your smartphone with sweaty hands, that could be the problem. So use a flashlight and check the port thoroughly. If you can spot any liquid right away, clear it away using a tissue. But if you don’t see anything but you think that there could be water in it, then try the solutions below.

Use a soft and dry cloth

The first thing that you could try to clear out any water that might be present in the USB port is by using a soft and dry cloth to clean it. Cotton microfibers are quick to absorb any water that it comes in contact with. So push a small piece of cotton cloth into the USB port carefully, and then restart the device.

If this solution proves ineffective and you still require alerts for moisture detection, proceed to the next option.

Use toothpick:

Besides cotton cloth, wood is also a good observer of moisture or water. So get yourself a toothpick as it would be small enough to get into the USB port and then carefully rotate it inside the port. If there is any water the toothpick should be able to absorb it for you within seconds. You can even wrap a small piece of tissue around the tip of the toothpick to speed up the absorption process.

If this does not help at all and you still need the notification of moisture detection, move on to the next solution.

Blow compressed air into the USB port:

Blowing dry air is also sometimes enough to push out any water that might be present in the port. Any liquid present inside the port could potentially get absorbed due to dry air blowing directly into it.

If this does not help at all and you still need the notification of moisture detection, move on to the next solution.

Use a hairdryer:

A hairdryer is an excellent choice of machine to clear off any water from a smartphone. Just ensure you do not push too much hot air into the charging port for a longer duration. Just blow hot air into the port for some seconds and then stop. After that, repeat the process a couple of times. Just ensure that the device does not get overheated due to this.

If this solution proves ineffective and you still require notifications for moisture detection, please proceed to the next option.

Rinse it:

By rinsing we do not mean putting in actual water to clear out the USB port. We mean using something like isopropyl alcohol or distilled water to remove any possible moisture accumulated in the USB port. You can use this trick using a small tissue paper by rinsing that and putting it inside the port. The alcohol or distilled water will soak in any water it comes in contact with. Just blow some cold air into the port after introducing it to isopropyl alcohol or distilled water.

Wait a few minutes and then restart your smartphone. If even this does not help at all and you still the notification of moisture detection, move on to the next solution.

Keep it under sunlight

This is a simple trick that many users use when they get their devices dipped in water in any way. You need to make sure that you do not put your phone under direct sunlight though. As that could result in more damage in terms of battery and process. Just put your smartphone under an appropriate amount of sunlight so that it would take away any available moisture in the phone within minutes.

After this, restart your smartphone. If even this does not help at all and you still the notification of moisture detection, move on to the next solution.

Use tweezers

Most of us have tweezers in our homes that we use for different purposes. If you have tweezers with a small enough tip, use that to push a cotton cloth into the USB port and then move around the tweezer just enough so that it comes in contact with the entire USB area. Just don’t overdo it at all as you could actually end up with a damaged USB port if you use too much force.

Please restart your smartphone after following these steps. If the issue persists and you continue to receive the notification for moisture detection, please proceed to the next solution.

Use the rice grain method

This is a traditional DIY trick you would see in many Youtube videos online on removing any water from your electrical devices. And yes, this does work. If you place your smartphone in a container of uncooked rice and keep it like that for somewhere around 48 hours, the rice will suck out any moisture that might be present in the smartphone. Just ensure that after trying this, you clean out the USB port with a dryer. Any single grain of rice left behind in the USB could actually increase your problem.

After this, restart your smartphone. If even this does not help, move on to the next solution.

Clear USB settings:

As mentioned above, this issue can arise up even when due to some software bug. But most bugs can be cleared out simply by clearing out any data that might be saved on your device. In this case, you need to clear the USB settings data and check whether that helps.

  • Open up Settings on your smartphone.
  • Go to apps.
  • Tap on USB settings.
  • Tap on the clear data option.
  • Give any permission if a pop-up shows up asking for it.
  • Wait till the data is cleared for USB, and then restart the device.

If even this does not help at all and you still need the notification of moisture detection, move on to the next solution.

Turn it off and charge:

If you have tried everything mentioned above and both the smartphone’s USB port and cable are completely dry, then it is a bug in the software. If even a restart is not enough to fix it, you must turn off the device completely. After turning off the device, plug in your charger and try charging up the Samsung Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus again. It should charge up now. But before trying this charging method, make sure that ports are completely dry or clean. If you do this while having moisture in the port, there could be hardware damage to the smartphone.

Use the wireless charging option:

If the above-mentioned charging trick does not work for you, then you can just use the wireless charging option. Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus support fast wireless charging. When the moisture detection error is not letting you charge up your smartphone, the wireless charging option can be a lifesaver. Until the notification goes away on its own you can just continue using the wireless option.

Perform a restore factory

If there is a possibility that all of this is happening due to a software bug, a factory reset should be enough to resolve all your problems. Your smartphone will be reset to its original state and you will lose all your data. This will clear out every possible bug on your smartphone but you need to create a backup important to you to ensure that you do not lose any essential data.

  • Open up Settings on your smartphone.
  • Go to Backup and reset.
  • Tap on Factory data reset.
  • Then tap on the reset device option.
  • Enter your passcode and then tap on Continue.
  • Choose the option Erase Everything and then wait till the process is complete.

Damaged USB port:

If none of the solutions mentioned above worked for you, you can be certain that this is indeed a hardware issue. In that case, taking your smartphone to the nearest Samsung service centre is your best option.

Over time USB ports get damaged due to regular usage, but some newer ones like the Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus may have a defective USB port in some specific units. In that case, take it to the nearest Samsung care and let the experts do their job. If you recently purchased this device you should not worry about repair costs either. That will fall under the property, given you don’t have actual water damage due to misusage.
