How to Build a Base in Project Zomboid?

If you haven’t already found a hammer, search for one after you’ve created your character. Even a 1 square meter shack cannot be built without hammers, nails, and logs. But, how will you find it? There are many wooden crates scattered about the map where you can find a hammer.

Muldraugh, KY, is a good place to spot them, especially the large warehouse east of McCoy Logging. Hammers can be found in many homes, especially two-story homes and garages, but you can’t be sure where they come from.

Right-click on the empty ground nearby to bring up the building menu once you have the hammer in your inventory. Simply keep a hammer in your inventory – you don’t need to equip it.
