Let’s talk about the Windows operating system. We have been using Windows since the late 90s to date. One of the most recurring features Microsoft has provided with every version of Windows is the Disk Cleanup utility.

In this guide, we will go into the details about what the Disk cleanup does exactly.? Also, how can a user access it on his Windows PC/Laptop and effectively use the feature. So, let’s get started.

What is Disk Cleanup?

It is a maintenance program that comes inbuilt within all PCs that run on the Windows OS. This utility aims to free up the memory of the hard disk. In the early version of Windows OS, the disk cleanup feature used to be a standalone function. However, with advancement into Windows 10, this feature has now been integrated into the Settings section of the device. At the same time, it also continues to tag along as a stand-alone feature like it used to be in the older Windows OS.

Why Cleaning up the Hard Disk is important?

The advantages of cleaning the clutter from the hard drive include faster performance, swift response, and more memory. The clutter of temporary files decreases the throughput of the system. That’s why people often complain that their PC is not working as it supposed to. They face issues like slowing down of the PC, insufficient memory, and malware infestation.

So, make sure to use disk cleanup frequently to keep the performance of the system at the optimum level. One user doesn’t really access all the files all the time. In fact, there would be most of the files that are opened or used not so frequently. With Disk cleanup these files can be compressed to make way for more memory in the hard drive of the PC.
