What is Download Mode or Odin Mode?

Odin mode, also known as Download mode, is a mode for SAMSUNG only. It is a state that allows you to flash firmware through Odin or other desktop software. The Download mode is also known by fastboot mode or Bootloader Mode. This is very useful for many reasons. The most common use of the fastboot mode is flashing stock firmware (Stock ROMs), flashing custom recoveries like TWRP and CWM, restoring backups, unlocking the bootloader, installing OTA updates, removing bloatware, tweaking system, overclocking Android phones amongst other uses.

When You Should Boot Into Download Mode?

You need to boot into Download Mode on Galaxy S20 (Plus) and S20 Ultra in a few following situations when you want to:

  • Flash Stock firmware
  • Custom firmware
  • Flash Stock recovery
  • Flash kernel
  • Gain root access by flashing root packages

Boot Into Download Mode on Galaxy S20 (Plus) and S20 Ultra

  • First of all, Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S10.
  • Press and hold Volume Down and then power up the Galaxy S20 (Plus) and S20 Ultra by holding the Power key for a while
  • Release all keys when you see the screen with Warning, you can confirm by pressing Volume UP key.
  • Or you can use the Volume Down key to cancel or restart the Samsung Galaxy S20 (Plus) and S20 Ultra.

Note

Download mode is also known as ODIN mode. So do not confuse between Download mode and ODIN mode. Both of them are the same process with different names.
