With all said and done, OnePlus has finally introduced the two flagship smartphones of 2019 i.e. OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Where OnePlus actually presented its high-end flagship OnePlus 7 Pro for over an hour, the OnePlus 7 got a mere 10 to 15 minutes of screentime at the launch event that was organized the BIEC Bengaluru yesterday on May 14 at 20:15 while there were simultaneously occurring launch events in London and New York as well.
Although OnePlus 7 didn’t get much of attention at the event, it is currently one of the fastest and best OnePlus smartphones till date. It has got all the best features cramped in a look inspired from last year’s OnePlus 6T bundled with the capabilities of high-end OnePlus 7 Pro and that’s all at a price tag way below the base price tag that OnePlus 6 was launched at in India.
OnePlus 7: Design and Display
If you are a OnePlus 6T user, you wouldn’t find much of a difference in the display and design as it is inspired by the successor OnePlus 6T. Anyways, the OnePlus 7 comes with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED FHD+ display with 402PPi and 1080×2340 pixels resolution along with a screen-to-body ratio of 85.5%. The phone has a front and rear Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection along with splash resistance although it is not certified so I would recommend users not to intentionally try and dip the phone in water.
The front has reduced bezel design with a waterdrop-shaped notch housing the front camera while the front upper stereo speaker with Dolby Atmos is housed just across the upper bezel and thus, doesn’t hoards any screen real estate. The device has a dual stereo speaker system as introduced during the launch event which means even if one of the speakers is muffled while holding, another backed with Dolby Atmos produces sound at optimum quality and clarity.
OnePlus 7: Processor, RAM, Internal Storage
Moving ahead, OnePlus 7 strikes the most exciting features without fail such as the latest and the fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core SoC manufacturing using a 7nm process which is way faster than the Snapdragon 845 processor integrated into OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. Snapdragon 855 brings faster and power-efficient Kryo 485 cores at 1×2.84GHz + 3×2.42GHz + 4×1.80GHz that have proven to be 45% faster and 20% power-efficient. Furthermore, SDM855 brings an upgraded Adreno 640 GPU (OP6T sported Adreno 630) which is 20% faster and 30% power-efficient which cumulatively makes the device is a high-octane gaming machine.
OnePlus 7 has two internal storage configurations i.e. a 6GB RAM with 128GB and another at 8GB+256GB backed with OnePlus RAM Boost technology that favors aggressive CPU usage that handles graphics and processing as a priority when someone is playing intensive games like PUBG and interestingly enough, the game’s “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” innuendo was used to reference the game at yesterday’s launch event.
Finally, the device has the same 3,700 mAh battery that appeared with OP6T along with 20W fast charge so there’s no Warp Charge for OP7. But hey, there is an ultrafast UFS 3.0 data transfer technology within OnePlus 7 which is the first among smartphones since the only other phone to have it i.e. Samsung Galaxy Fold isn’t out for sale yet.
OnePlus 7: Camera Setup
OnePlus 6 and 6T had a dual-camera setup at the back with 20+16MP sensors but OnePlus 7 is different when it comes to the camera setup. It has attracted the same Sony IMX586 48MP primary sensor from OnePlus 7 Pro bundled with a 5MP depth sensor. The rear main sensor has a 1/2-inch sensor size with f/1.6 and comes with the new 7P seven element setup as opposed to 6P used in OnePlus 6/6T. The increased sensor size allows the primary camera to capture way more light which is than processed to showcase excellent photos and par clarity and detail.
The front, on the other hand, is backed with a 16MP main sensor which is housed in a camera module within the waterdrop-shaped notch which has specifics such as an f/1.7, 25mm wide lens, and 1/3.1-inch sensor size that will collectively take stunning selfies and groupies without any hassle.
