But plenty of reports are coming out that crossfading feature doesn’t work properly on Spotify mainly on the desktop app. It’s also worth mentioning that no matter how many seconds are being added, it simply doesn’t work. Fortunately, here we’ve shared with you a couple of possible workarounds that should come in handy. Make sure to follow all methods one by one until the problem has been fixed. So, without further ado, let’s jump into it.

1. Close and Restart Spotify

It’s always recommended to simply close and exit the Spotify app on a desktop or mobile device. Then relaunch Spotify to check if the problem has been fixed or not.

2. Turn Off and On Crossfade

Sometimes simply turning off the Crossfade feature on Spotify and then turning it on again might help you. Make sure to do this method before going to any other conclusion. It might be possible that a temporary app or system glitch is conflicting with such an issue. As some of the users have already tried and found it useful, you should give it a try.

For Desktop:

  • Launch the Spotify application.
  • Ensure you’re logged into the account.
  • Click on the Profile icon at the top right side.
  • Click on Settings from the context menu.
  • Now, scroll down a bit, and go to the Playback option.
  • Make sure to Turn Off the toggle for Crossfade songs.
  • Wait for a couple of seconds and then Turn On the option again.

For Mobile:

  • Tap on the Spotify app icon on your phone to open it.
  • Now, tap on the Settings icon from the top right corner.
  • Scroll down and go to the Playback option.
  • Just Turn Off the slider to disable the Crossfade songs option.
  • Then drag the slider to set a certain value to turn it back on.

3. Try Changing the Crossfader Value

You should also try changing the crossfader value on the Spotify app to ensure there is no issue with the incorrect value. Depending on your preference, the crossfader value should vary from person to person. So, adjust yours manually.

For PC:

  • Launch the Spotify app on your desktop.
  • Click on the profile icon at the top right corner.
  • Choose Settings > Scroll down and click on the Crossfade songs toggle under Playback.
  • Once turned on, you can easily drag the slider to change the crossfader value.
  • Make sure to select a value from 0-12 seconds. (5 sec is recommended for most)

For Mobile:

  • Open the Spotify app on your phone.
  • Tap on the Settings icon at the top right corner.
  • Scroll down and go to the Playback section.
  • Now, drag the Crossfade slider > Set a specific value.
  • You can set the value between 5 to 7 seconds.
  • Once done, close & relaunch Spotify.

4. Restart the Device

Well, you can restart the specific device to cross-check whether the Spotify app still having issues or not. In most cases, restarting the device might help you a lot. It might also clear temporary glitches or cache data issues up to some extent.

For PC:

  • Open the Start menu > Click on the Power icon.
  • It’ll open the Power Menu > Click on Restart.

For Mobile:

  • Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the Power Options menu appears.
  • Tap on the Restart button to reboot the mobile device.

5. Run the Spotify App as an Administrator

Make sure to run the Spotify application as an administrator to avoid user account control regarding privilege issues. To do this:

  • Right-click on the Spotify application on your PC.
  • Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.

  • Next, click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox to select it.
  • Click on Apply and select OK to save changes.

6. Check the Internet Connection

You should always cross-check your internet connection because a poor or unstable network can eventually trigger plenty of issues while launching or using the Spotify app. Make sure to disconnect other devices from the same network which are unnecessary to avoid slow internet speed. Either you can use mobile data or Wi-Fi to cross-check the issue. In case, your internet network isn’t stable or fast enough then make sure to contact your service provider for further technical assistance.

7. Update the Spotify App

Sometimes the crossfading feature doesn’t work properly if you’re using the older versions of the Spotify app. It’s worth mentioning that an outdated application version might include stability issues or bugs that we can’t deny.

For PC:

  • If you’ve installed the Spotify app directly via the Microsoft Store:
    • Open the Start menu > Open Microsoft Store.
    • Go to Library at the bottom left.
    • If the Spotify app update is available, click on the Update button.
  • If you’ve directly installed Spotify via the official website:

For Android:

  • Open the Google Play Store app > Tap on the hamburger menu icon.
  • Next, tap on My Apps & Games > Check for Spotify updates.
  • If the app update is available, tap on the Update button.
  • Wait for it to install and then open the Spotify app to check for the issue.

For iOS:

  • Open the Apple App Store application on the iPhone.
  • Now, tap on the Profile Picture icon from the top-right corner.
  • Scroll down a bit to see which apps are available for update.
  • Check whether the Spotify app update is available or not.
  • If the app update is pending, tap on the Update button.
  • Wait for the installation process to complete.
  • Then launch the Spotify app to check for the issue.

8. Use Another Spotify Account

It’s quite possible that you’re using an account that might have some issues with the crossfade feature. Try using another Spotify account to cross-check the issue further. Either use a direct login or Facebook or Google account to sign in/up.

9. Do Not Use Spotify Connect

Some of the reports claim that using Spotify Connect across multiple devices can be another reason behind the crossfading issue. It’s better to avoid using Spotify Connect. While some reports suggest that Spotify Connect doesn’t support crossfading.

10. Turn Off and On Gapless Playback (Mobile)

Though Gapless Playback and Crossfading seem quite similar, they’re slightly different in working. The Gapless Playback feature basically allows album tracks to play continuously without any kind of interruption or time gap between the end and start of the music. While the Corssfading feature allows users to create their own continuous mix with various songs using fade-out & concept within a time frame. Therefore, you should disable the Gapless Playback feature on your mobile by following the steps below.

  • Open the Spotify app on your phone.
  • Tap on the Settings icon at the top right corner.
  • Go to the Playback option > Turn Off the Gapless Playback feature.

11. Reinstall the Spotify App

If the above methods didn’t come in handy then make sure to uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app on the device to check if the problem has been fixed or not.

Please Note: You’ll need to re-download all the downloaded music or podcasts after reinstalling the Spotify app.

For PC:

  • First, close the Spotify application on the desktop.
  • Press the Win+I keys to open the Settings menu.
  • Go to Apps > Click on Installed Apps.
  • Search and locate Spotify from the installed apps section.
  • Now, click on Spotify to select it > Click on the three dots icon next to it.
  • Click on Uninstall and follow the on-screen prompts to remove it.
  • Then visit the Spotify download page or Microsoft Store to reinstall the app again.

For Android:

  • Tap and hold the Spotify app icon to open the pop-up menu.
  • Now, tap on Uninstall. [You can also go to App Info and select Uninstall]
  • Once uninstalled completely, just restart your mobile.
  • Finally, go to the Google Play Store app > Search for Spotify and tap on Install.

For iOS:

  • Tap and hold the Spotify app icon from the home screen on your iPhone.
  • Now, select Remove App from the pop-up menu > Tap on Delete App.
  • The system will again ask you whether to delete the app or not.
  • Select the Delete button to uninstall it.
  • Then open the Apple App Store application on your iPhone.
  • Tap on the Search icon and type Spotify to search for it.
  • Tap on the Get button or tap on the cloud download icon.
  • Wait for it to install completely and then start using it.

12. Contact Spotify Helpdesk Community

Last but not least, you should contact Spotify Helpdesk Community and submit the issue with valid details to get better support.
