Sometimes earbuds are working, but not paired correctly. so try to pair them again with your smartphone.
Also check if your buds are charging (there are small connectors on buds, which allows them to connect) if these contacts are corroded or covered with tape etc, then the buds will not charge and will not connect. So check for that as well.
