Check it up with your telecom carrier

The most common problem behind a weak signal or lost network issue is as simple as the problem on your telecom carrier’s end. The network could be down or satisfactory or even poor in case if your carrier is running analysis, maintenance, or other tasks that might have resulted in compromising network strength. Simply call the telecom carrier via their dedicated customer care helpline and get more information about the same.

Verify the issue with a friend/colleague

If your telecom carrier isn’t helping you at this stage, call any of your friend or colleague or someone you know who is subscribed to the same telecom carrier to verify if they are experiencing the same issue or not. If the issue is literal, they must be experiencing the same issue if they are living in the same locality. Or else, you can always port out to a different telecom carrier which is a swift procedure and takes just a day or two in most countries.

Check out for any interference/interruptions

Next up, if the telecom carrier is not at fault here, it is quite possible that interference caused due to walls, obstacles, buildings, etc is causing the network strength to wobble. This includes the phone case or covers that you are using since there is a possibility that the case if interrupting with the signal. To verify this theory, remove the phone case and check for network strength. Do the same after moving to a comparatively open space that might enable eliminate the interference caused due to obstacles.

Are you blocking the network antenna?

If interference is not caused due to an external obstacle, check whether you are blocking off the network antenna mounted on your phone. Blocking it off could result in poor strength or even no network in some cases. The solution for the same is to check the alignment of the antenna and use different methods of holding the device to reduce blockage.

Turn on Airplane mode

One of the most sophisticated yet simple methods to comply while fixing a weak signal or lost network issue is to simply turn on airplane mode. Now that all the cellular incoming and outgoing networks have been disabled, you can wait for a few seconds before turning it back off. This must restore the cellular network on SIM card(s) you have installed in your device.

Reboot the device

Another comeback towards this issue is to simply reboot the device. This is because it is plausible that the phone has overworked, overloaded due to too many apps and processes running at the same time. Performing a quick reboot must relieve it from this stress and must also fix any problem originating from this stress as well.

Swap between SIM cards

You can need to physically swap SIM cards but rather use the dedicated swap SIM selection button either available physically or virtually notifications or settings app on your device. It must work in some cases where the network is disrupted temporarily due to unavailability while you were moving across the house or office reaching a spot where that particular telecom carrier doesn’t have network coverage or it is very poor.

Use ‘Preferred Network’ mode

Your phone has a number of settings that you can tweak to get favorable results. One of the settings is of ‘Preferred Network’ that you can access via Settings >> SIM. Here, you can instruct the system to register to the only 4G network, 3G/4G, or any network available. Since the lower bands of networks have more penetration than the higher network bands, it is quite possible that you will end of having at least 3G or 2G whilst traveling if 4G isn’t available.

Use the ‘Network Selection’ mode

It is a common issue with smartphones while traveling when the network suddenly takes a dump. The phone is equipped with a feature to automatically search for the available network but it could be little sluggish when traveling which is why there is a different setting available at disposal as well. ‘Manual’ mode under Network selection enables the user to search for networks manually and register to a competent network. This is comparatively faster and since you can use this method actually when you need to call or text something on the cellular network, you can search for the network and register, if available.

Check for any physical damage to the SIM card/tray

SIM cards are delicate and susceptible to wear and tear if you indulge in constantly removing and inserting them due to any xyz reasons. Now, remove the SIM card, check if it is damaged or not. Verify the same by inserting it in a different phone that must eliminate the obvious.

Check if power saving mode is problematic

If the power saving mode is enabled, toggle it off and check whether it makes any difference or not. If nothing changes, simply turn on the mode again.

Update all apps and the Android OS

It is not a secret that you must always keep the system updated because outdated apps and firmware alike introduce a slew of problems that you must avoid getting into. You can check out for available updates by digging into the Google Play app and navigating to the ‘My apps and games’ section to gauge apps that require an update. Next, to check whether you have received an Android update or not, you’ll have to proceed to the Software Updates section under Settings app.

Purge all cache memory

Cache memory is temporary and a regularly repeated storage on your phone. Every time you use an app or service, it creates cache memory to store data that reduces the retrieval time. However, this memory is highly vulnerable to bugs and corruption which is why it needs to be removed every day or two. You’ll need to purge all cache memory including app cache which is accessible via Settings >> Apps >> Downloaded. Another type of cache file is storage cache which is accessible at Settings >> Storage >> Cache Memory. Finally, the third type of cache storage is cache partition that requires you to boot into the recovery mode where you can select ‘wipe cache partition’ to do the same.

Pull a complete factory reset

The moment you realize that nothing is helping in this case of a weak signal or lost network issue, turn towards the all-powerful hard reset that you perform on your device if any problem is whatsoever related to software failure or crash. For this, you will need to comply with a specific procedure which could be different from brands-to-brands. Here’s how you can reset a Haier smartphone.

Start by turning off the device.
Now, press power plus volume up button together and hold it just there for a few seconds.
Just when you see an Android logo flashing on the screen, you can let go the buttons.
Next is to select the option that says “wipe data/factory reset” where you need to use power button (to select) and volume up/down (to scroll).

Make way to an authorized service center

If nothing works, it’s time to walk into a nearby service center where you can report the issue, produce warranty of the device if applicable and get required repair or replacement at or without any charges based on the warranty clauses and severity of the issue.
