LG Ultragear No Signal, How to Fix

LG makes some of the best display panels in the industry, whether for TVs or monitors. Their monitors are known to be reliable and are recommended by many. LG Ultragear series produces excellent gaming monitors which are loved by gamers all around the globe. LG’s tagline is “Life’s Good,” but a “No Signal” message on the monitor when you are in a mood of intense gaming is anything but good. Let us find some ways to resolve the issue and jump right back into the virtual world of gaming.

Why Does The Monitor Show No Signal Message?

Well, as the monitor is showing a no signal message, your LG Ultragear panel should be fine. The reason can be an improper power supply to the PC, incompatible cables used for connection, incorrect monitor settings, or wrong input selection. Although the panel works, the monitor may have other hardware issues, especially in the input ports. Also, it can very well be, or more likely, a problem caused by the PC hardware. 

How to Fix LG Ultragear No Signal?

Fix 1: Check the PC Power Supply

First of all, you need to make sure that the PC is on. If you haven’t already, check that:

  1. Your PC is connected to the wall power and the switch is on.
  2. In case of the wall power fails, try using a different outlet to plug the PC.
  3. Turn on your PC again.

Now, if you are sure that the PC is on, and you are still getting the No Signal message, check out the next steps.

Fix 2: Restart The Monitor

Though it is a simple fix, it can be helpful at times. So, if you haven’t tried unplugging and plugging back on. You shall:

  1. Turn off the monitor. 
  2. Unplug the power cables and wait for some time.
  3. Plug it back, and turn it on again.

Fix 3: Check The Cables for Connectivity Issues

We have checked the power supply and the PC is properly plugged in. Now, let’s check the cables that connect the two. It is common for cables to lose their grip after repeated usage. 

Find the connected cables on the back of your monitor. Thoroughly check the connected cables.

  1. Make sure that the cords are making a secure connection and are held up firmly.
  2. Unplug the display cable and reconnect it.
  3. Check for any visible damage in the cords. You can also try using a different cord to connect if you have a different cord available.
  4. Try using a different mode of connection. For example, if you use HDMI, you can try with a DP cable and vice versa.
  5. It is recommended not to use a DVI to HDMI/Display Port cable, as it may cause compatibility issues.
  6. Try to use a certified cable with the HDMI logo. If you are not using a certified HDMI cable, the screen may not display, or you may get a “No Signal” message.
  7. Make sure that you are using the supplied DisplayPort cable of the product. There may be no video if there are compatibility issues with the DP version of the PC.
  8. If your PC has an onboard GPU, then be sure to connect the cable to the graphics card outlet of your PC.
  9. LG recommends using HDMI cables of the following types:
    • High-Speed HDMI®/TM cable.
    • High-Speed HDMI®/TM cable with Ethernet.

Fix 4: Select The Correct Input Mode

Ultragear monitors may not figure out the input mode automatically, which may be causing the issue. You can manually change the input settings from the monitor settings menu.

To change the input settings on your Ultragear monitor:

  1. Find the joystick button on the bottom of the monitor.
  2. Press the joystick button to activate the main menu.
  3. You can change the options by moving the joystick up/down or left/right.
  4. Select the right input mode for your product.

So, we have tried the most common and simple fixes. Now, we have to figure out if the problem is really with the monitor.

Fix 5: Remove and Reinsert The RAM Sticks

It can be possible that the RAM sticks are not making a proper connection with the motherboard. This can result in no video output. If this is the problem, then removing and reinserting the RAM sticks can fix the issue.

  1. Open up the PC cabinet by unscrewing the screws. Make sure you are grounded.
  2. Find the RAM sticks connected to the motherboard. The sticks are generally placed beside the processor.
  3. To remove the RAM, find the small clips at the ends of the RAM slot. Gently push the clip downwards to unclip the stick.
  4. If you are using a single stick, change the slot and for multiple sticks, try to exchange the slots between them.
  5. You should be careful while reinserting the sticks. There should be a small notch on the RAM module, which shall be matched to the slot; if you push it in the opposite direction, the pressure can damage the module. Match the gap and push the module gently into the slot until you hear a clicking sound.
  6. Make sure the clips are secure once again.
  7. Close the PC lid and connect your PC back.
  8. Plug the PC back in and turn it on.

Fix 6: Reset the BIOS

Resetting the BIOS can solve many issues related to settings by loading the default configurations of the PC. Some may wonder how to reset the BIOS if we don’t have a monitor to look at the setup screen. Well, the embedded BIOS firmware is powered by the CMOS battery. Removing the battery can reset the BIOS. 

To reset the BIOS:

  1. Open up your PC case.
  2. Find the CR2032 CMOS battery on the motherboard. It is quite distinct looking from other components, generally a coin-size flat component. It is more likely to be found near the PCIe slots.
  3. In case of a small-sized motherboard, the CMOS battery can often be found inside an insulated plastic wrap, generally blue. Please refer to your motherboard user manual if you have trouble locating it.
  4. Next, we need to remove the battery. Find the lock on the battery slot for the people with coin cell batteries. Push the lock to the side and the battery will pop out comfortably. Please note the battery polarity. The top side is likely to be the positive side with the (+) sign.
  5. The CMOS is attached with a wire for small motherboards with the wrapped cell. Disconnect the cable connected to the motherboard. Again, note the polarity of the wires before removing them. You can also click a picture of the motherboard to check for any wrong changes later.
  6. After removing the battery, press and hold the power button of the PC while keeping it disconnected, this will release the charges held by the capacitor and discharge them.
  7. Now, we have to reinsert the battery. Keep in mind the polarity of the battery insert and push the coin cell into the slot. If you have the wired one, reinsert the cable header; also, be sure to check the polarity.
  8. The BIOS should now be reset. 
  9. Put the lid back on and plug back everything.
  10. Turn on your PC and see if the issue is solved.

Fix 7: Check For Display Driver or Compatibility Issues

For this solution, you will need to see the screen. So, if you can temporarily arrange a different monitor, that would be great. If you can’t have one, follow the next step for safe mode. 

Outdated software can cause many compatibility issues. Consider updating your PC graphics drivers. It can help prevent these issues in the future.

The easiest way to update drivers is to update Windows.

Goto Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Any available update will be downloaded and installed by Windows automatically. You should also install the Display drivers with your Product from LG.

You can install the driver from: 

  1. Display driver CD that comes with your display.
  2. Alternatively, you can download the driver from the LG official website: www.lg.com and install it from there(use your product serial number to find the right ones).

You can also use the Windows Device Manager to update device drivers manually.

Fix 8: Boot in Safe Mode

This is for the users using a Windows PC. If there is a problem with the display resolution, it can be fixed by booting into safe mode. Safe mode defaults to a lower resolution; after booting in, you can change the display resolution of your PC to match the monitor’s supported resolution.

You must enter the Windows Recovery Environment (winRE) to boot into safe mode in Windows. To run into the winRE you have to turn your PC on and off repeatedly. For more information or help regarding safe mode or winRE, you can refer to the Microsoft support page.

Once in the WinRE on the Choose an option screen:

  1. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  2. After the PC restarts, you will see a list of options. From there, choose “Safe Mode.”

After your PC boots into safe mode:

  1. Goto Start > Settings > System > Display.
  2. Scroll and find “Scale and layout.”
  3. Here you can find Display resolution; choose the best resolution for your product.
  4. Refer to the LG user manual to get the correct product specification.


“No signal” problems can be hard to diagnose and resolve. We hope the abovementioned solutions have helped you identify and solve the issue.
