Relationships are a very important part of games like RPGs. When people are investing hundreds of hours into the game, they would want to be with someone they actually like in the game. However, it isn’t that easy in video games, just like real life. For instance, in Witcher 3 you need to ensure that you properly choose all the respective dialogue options to end up with Yennefer and Triss. A slight mistake here and there would make you lose the partner of your choice, or even end up losing both of them.
Similarly, relationships are an important part of life simulators too. Stardew Valley is one such game that has ample emphasis on relationship elements. The game has a point system to determine how your relationship is with that particular villager. You start off by befriending a villager by regularly talking to them and giving them gifts and stuff. Keep in mind that if you are not able to talk to the villager, your relationship starts deteriorating as well. So you have to keep working hard to maintain it. Once you have reached a given number of points, you can also propose your friend and make him/her your spouse. The game is pretty robust when it comes to relationship elements.
One of the most popular NPCs in the game is Abigail. In Stardew Valley, there are a lot of NPCs, but you can marry only a few of them. If you want to marry Abigail, read on to find out more about it.

How to Befriend and Marry Abigail in Stardew Valley?
To marry Abigail, your first step should be befriending her. Like any other NPC in the game, befriending Abigail is one of the most important steps to marrying her. So how do you actually befriend her? Well like we mentioned earlier, you do need to do a number of tasks to befriend an NPC. When it comes to Abigail, you need to befriend her by regularly talking to her and giving her gifts. So what gifts should you gift to Abigail?
Well, there are a variety of things you can give to her. However, keep in mind that you need to give only things which she likes to ensure that your relationship with her keeps on building. Her favorite items include Amethyst, Chocolate Cake, Pufferfish, Pumpkin, and Spicy Eel. Giving these items to her should improve your relationship with her considerably. Do keep in mind that you can only send two gifts per week to any person in the game.
There is another important thing to note though. Abigail’s birthday is on Fall 13, so you need to ensure that you send her a gift on that specific day to further improve your relationship with her.
Once you have done the above and have at least eight hearts, you can move to the next step and try to become her lover. So how should you do that? Well it’s pretty simple. First of all, make sure you have eight hearts as this will work only if you have that. Next, you need to go to Peirre’s General Store and buy a bouquet. As soon as you trade the bouquet with Abigail, you will be no longer friends with her but instead, become lovers! But our goal is to marry Abigail so there is more to do. You need to keep giving her gifts to improve your relationship with her and reach ten hearts. Once you have ten hearts, you can propose to her.
Proposing her is very easy. Just like any other NPC you need to give her the Mermaid’s Pendant to propose to her. Purchasing the Mermaid’s Pendant is a bit tricky though. It can only be purchase from the Old Mariner. The Old Mariner stands along the Northside of the Eastern Beach. He only appears on rainy days. The cost of the Mermaid’s Pendant is 5,000 golds.
Once you have proposed to Abigail, a marriage ceremony will be held. This takes place three days after your proposal. Once the ceremony ends, you are married. Abigail will move into your house with you and live with you. When it comes to the benefits of having a partner in Stardew Valley, there are loads of the. They can take care of the daily chores for you which is quite a welcome addition.
However, do note that you need to maintain your relationship with her. You need to keep interacting with her and giving her gifts to maintain the relationship. Also, if you give gifts to other people who are potential candidates for marriage, Abigail can get jealous and it can hurt your relationship with her.
The next step is having kids. If you want to have kids, you need to upgrade your farmhouse twice and you will get access to the nursery. Once the nursery is added, Abigail will herself ask you at night whether you want to have a kid. You can answer affirmatively, or just delay it as per your preference. You can adopt a child or have one biologically depending on whether you are of the same gender as your partner or the other.

Finally, if you want to file for a divorce, you can do so at the Mayor’s Manor by spending 50,000g. Once you have filed for a divorce you have up to the end of the day to cancel it. Once the divorce is done, Abigail will go back to her old residence while the kids you have will remain at the farmhouse. Your relationship will go to zero hearts, and she will have negative interactions with other villagers about you and the marriage.
If you want to marry her again, you need to go to the Witch’s hut and erase her memory by giving 30,000g as an offering to the shrine. That will erase her memory completely and she will have no memory of the marriage. You can follow the steps above to befriend her and marry her again. You can also have kids with her once again if you want.
