2. Check for System Updates

For Xbox:

  • Press the Home button on the Xbox console to open the Dashboard menu.
  • Now, select Settings from the bottom of the menu > Select All Settings.
  • Choose to System > Select Updates.

For PlayStation:

3. Delete Saved Game Data

It’s recommended to delete the saved game data on the console because sometimes the corrupted or missing game data can trigger multiple issues with the game crashing or black screen on the Xbox or PlayStation console. To do this:

For Xbox Cloud Saves:

  • From the Home menu, select My games & apps.
  • Make sure to highlight the MLB The Show 22 game > Press the Menu button on your controller.
  • Then select Manage game & add-ons.
  • Select the Saved data box then choose the MLB The Show 22 data that you want to delete.
  • Confirm the deleting process and wait for it.

  • Finally, select Remove selected and reboot the console once completed.

For PlayStation:

  • Go to the Settings menu > Select Storage.
  • Choose to Saved Data > Select MLB The Show 22.
  • Press the Options button on the controller > Select the saved game data files (one or multiple).

  • Now, sign in to your Activision account in the same browser window.

Note: Activision accounts may only have one account linked per manufacturer.

  • Next, select CONTINUE and you’ll be taken back to the PlayStation or Xbox website to complete the account linking process.
  • Do the steps accordingly to link both the accounts.
  • You may need to reboot the console to change effects immediately.

5. Rebuild Database (PS4/PS5)

Rebuilding the database on your PlayStation console can quickly resolve the potential issues or errors. To do so:

  • Switch off your console completely. Unplug the power cable from the console and wait for around 2-3 minutes.
  • Now, plug in the power cable, and turn it on to clear the Cached Data automatically from the system.

Check whether this issue has been fixed with the MLB The Show 22 game or not. If not, follow the next steps below.

  • Now, press and hold the Power button on the PlayStation console until you hear 2 beeps. [The second beep will sound after seven seconds]
  • The console will boot in the Safe Mode > Connect the controller to the USB with the console and press the PS Button on the controller.

6. Reinstall MLB The Show 22

7. Reset the Console

As a last resort, you should try resetting the console to the factory default so that you can understand whether the problem is happening with the console or the game. To do so:

For Xbox:

  • Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the Guide menu.
  • Select Profile & system > Go to Settings > Select System.
  • Go to Console info > Select Reset console.
  • You’ll get a prompt like Reset your console?
  • Here you should select Reset and remove everything. [This will delete all user data including accounts, saved games, settings, all installed apps & games, etc]
    • Although you can choose to Reset and keep my games & apps, it may not gonna resolve the issue in most cases.
  • After you select the option, your Xbox console starts deleting and resetting the system to the factory default settings.
  • Wait for the process to get completed then reboot the console.

For PlayStation 4:

  • In the Settings menu on your PS4 console, go to the ‘Initialization’ tab.
  • Select ‘Initialize PS4’ > On the next page, choose ‘Full’.
  • Now, your PlayStation 4 console will start wiping itself clean and restoring the system to the default. [This process may take some time]

For PlayStation 5:

  • Go to the Settings menu (cog icon) on the console.
  • Hit System software > Select Reset options.
  • Select Reset your console > Select Reset.
  • After a few minutes, your PS5 console will automatically reset itself to the factory default mode.
  • Finally, the console will automatically boot into the standard setup screen after some time. [If you’re selling your console then don’t follow the next steps]
    • If you’re resetting for troubleshooting or any kind of issue then you may proceed through the normal setup as usual.
  • Once done, log into your account and install the MLB The Show 22 game to check for the black screen issue again.
