Clean the internals of the device:
We do not recommend this method if your PS4 is new and it is still under warranty. The warranty will be void when you open the device independently. So if your device is under contract, you should send it to Sony and inform them about your loud fan noise issue.
But if the warranty period is over for the device, you can open it up without any issues.
- You must use a T8 or T9 torx security bit screwdriver to remove the console’s screws.
- After removing all the screws on the back, remove the back panel. There will be a total of 4 screws.
- Once the back panel is removed, you will see the fan. Scrutinize the fan and clear out any dust on it. Apart from the fan, also look at the inlets and outlets near the sides of the fan. If you see any dust on them, clear them out as well. If sufficient air is not coming into the device, the fans will always spin harder to cool up the device.
After properly cleaning up the PS4, place the back cover again and screw it up properly with all the screws. Now check whether the loud fan noise still exists or not. If it is still there, try the next solution.
Use compressed air:
Cans of compressed air are readily available in departmental stores. You can get one such can to clear out the input and output vents around the PS4.
Now check whether the loud fan noise still exists or not. If it is still there, try the next solution.
Change the orientation:
If you have only placed the PS4 in a horizontal orientation all the time, it is time you give it a change. Change the direction to vertical from flat, and that might work out. Similarly, if you have always used it vertically, try switching to a horizontal direction.
If changing the orientation also does not help your case, move on to the next solution.
Update the console:
If none of the solutions worked for you, you might face a bug in your OS. It would be best to try updating the OS to the latest version to fix this.
- Turn on the PS4 and go to the main dashboard
- From there, using the bar at the top, go to the Settings menu.
- Look for the System Software Update option in the Settings menu.
- Once you find it, select it using your controller.
- Then follow the instructions that show up on your screen and then install the update on your console.
The update should resolve your problem. If it does not help you, you should contact Sony customer service support. They should be able;e to provide you with a solution or take up your device for the required service.
