The pirate’s main enemy in Sea of Thieves is the dangerous Gunpowder skeletons. The skeletons come in various shapes and sizes and will truly put any pirate’s abilities to the test. Each skeleton in Sea of Thieves has its own unique abilities and individual Captains. During the course of the game, players will mostly get to face off against only one type of a skeleton when doing a regular quest.
For instance, the Order of Souls voyage will task players with hunting the most ruthless skeletons in Sea of Thieves till they make it to the Captain. Players will have to fight off against waves of skeletons before the Captain will spawn and then proceed to take its skull as proof of bounty.
In this guide, we will focus on how players can defeat the Gunpowder Skeletons in Sea of Thieves.
How to Defeat Gunpowder Skeletons in Sea of Thieves
The Gunpowder Skeletons in Sea of Thieves are a part of a recent new introduction in the game. As a part of the Bilge Rat Adventure, players are assigned hunting and killing large groups of these dangerous skeletons. The Gunpowder Skeleton is relatively easy to identify as they will be holding a large gunpowder barrel with them, as shown in the image below.
These skeletons can be tricky as they will light the gunpowder barrel whenever a player gets near them. As soon as it is lit, players need to be able to get away from these skeletons as fast as possible.
Taking down a Gunpowder Skeleton is much easier since they are always carrying a barrel of gunpowder on them. From a safe distance, take aim at the barrel and then shoot. This will trigger the barrel to explore along with the skeleton and other nearby. However, players need to take extra caution with the gunpowder barrels. If there are too many gunpowder skeletons within the blast radius, players can unknowingly set off a chain of explosives. It is pretty cool to watch, but it can be dangerous if players are not at a safe distance.
With the new addition to Sea of Thieves, the Stronghold Gunpowder Barrels are also added. This means players will be able to encounter skeletons popping up carrying a gunpowder barrel. Cool huh?
Well, aimed-players will be easily able to tackle these skeletons, without actually setting off the gunpowder barrel and destroying just the skeleton leaves behind the Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel. Players can then sell them at the market for lots of gold!
