With the new Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803), Microsoft has started automatically installing the updated version of Microsoft Edge. It is an excellent initiative as you get the new, improved version of Microsoft Edge, which is more compatible with different websites. You don’t even have to go through the struggle of downloading it yourself. The new Microsoft Edge, based on the Chromium engine, replaces the legacy version of Microsoft Edge when it gets installed on your computer.
Though Microsoft Edge is faster and is more secure than its legacy version, several users still don’t want the new Microsoft Edge. Perhaps the users are more comfortable with the legacy version or have their own reasons to reject the latest Microsoft Edge. Whatever the reason is, if you are not satisfied with the new Microsoft Edge, you can remove it from your device. If you are not feeling comfortable with the updated Microsoft Edge browser, then this guide is going to help you. We will take you through the process of removing the updated Microsoft Edge browser from your computer.
Remove new Microsoft Edge from automatically installing on your computer:
To remove the new Microsoft Edge from your Windows 10 computer, we will discuss two basic methods.
Method 1: Microsoft Blocker Toolkit
Microsoft has a Blocker Toolkit to stop any application from getting installed on your computer. You can use the Microsoft Edge Chromium Blocker Toolkit to remove the updated Microsoft Edge browser.
- Go to the Microsoft support website.
- Here, you can find the Blocker Toolkit download link.
- Download the exe file.
- Double-click on the exe file to open it.
- Then, click, “Yes.”
- Select the Browse button.
- You have to choose a folder to extract the exe file.
- Choose a folder named “Edge.”
- Click “OK“
- Again press OK when a user prompt asks permission for your action.
- Press Windows key +R.
- Type “cmd” and press Enter.
- When you see the Command Prompt option, right-click on it to choose the Run as administrator option.
- Now, you have to run the file that you extracted earlier to the Edge folder.
- Suppose the “edge” folder is inside the “Downloads” folder. You have to type the underlying command in the Command Prompt window.
The registry change did NOT prevent Edge from automatically installing itself
