How to Fix Asus Zephyrus G14 / G15 Audio Not Working Problem

Fixing the audio issues on your Asus laptop is fairly easy and you also don’t have to be very technical for it. Simply, apply the solutions below one by one until you find the one that works for you.

Fix 1: Check these Basic Audio Settings

First of all, you have to make sure that your Asus laptop’s sound is not muted. The keyboard has a shortcut key to mute/unmute the sound. Probably, you or someone may have accidentally pressed it and that could be resulting in no audio on your Zephyrus G14 or G15.

To mute or unmute your Asus laptop, press the FN key + function key with a sound icon. Now, play a sound and check if you can hear the audio.

If you still can’t hear the audio, click the volume icon in the bottom-right corner and increase the volume to at least 50. If the volume was too low before, increasing it should fix the issue.

Next, you have to check if the sound is muted. For this, click the volume icon again in the bottom-right corner and see the volume icon. If there’s a cross sign next to the volume icon (check the screenshot below), it means the sound is muted. To unmute it, tap on the volume icon.

These were some basic checks to ensure that the audio issues were not occurring because of muted sound or low volume.

Fix 2: Restart Your Laptop

The audio not working can occur due to bugs and glitches, which can be fixed by restarting your computer. When you restart your computer, all the audio-related processes are also restarted, which could fix the issue.

To restart your Asus laptop, click the Windows logo, tap the power icon, and select Restart. Alternatively, you can press Alt + F4 and select Restart from the dropdown options.

Play a sound on your laptop and check if you can hear the audio. If yes, great! However, if the problem persists, you will need to check if your laptop is using the correct device for sound output. More on this in the next solution.

Fix 3: Make Sure Your Laptop Is Using the Correct Device for Audio Output

If a different audio output device is selected, you might not hear any sound on your laptop. When you connect multiple audio devices to a PC, it may select a new device as the default audio device. You should therefore look into the sound settings and make the required changes.

Here’s how to check which device is currently being used to play audio:

  1. Click the “Windows + X” shortcut and select “Settings” from the available options.
  2. Tap on “System” from the left-side menu.
  3. Click “Sound”.
  4. Select the audio device under “Choose where to play sound”.

After making these changes, play any audio track on your Asus laptop to check if the sound issues are fixed.

However, if the problem persists, you might need to change the default playback device. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click the “Windows + X” shortcut and select “Settings” from the available options.
  2. Tap on “System” from the left-side menu.
  3. Click “Sound”.

Fix 6: Update the Audio Driver

If you still can’t hear the sound, it’s probably because of an outdated or corrupted audio driver. Although an older audio driver should work just fine, there might be compatibility issues with new software or the latest audio devices. You should therefore update the driver to check if it can fix the sound issues.

Here’s how to update the audio driver on your Windows PC:

  1. Type “Device Manager” in the search box at the bottom and hit Enter.
  2. Expand “Sound, video and game controllers”.

  4. Tap on “Search automatically for drivers”. Windows will start looking for a new driver.

It has been noticed Windows says “The best drivers for your device are already installed” even when an update is available. Either you can manually download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website or use a reliable third-party driver update tool such as Driver Easy, DriverFix, or Smart Driver Care.

If it does not work, try manually updating the driver. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Type “Device Manager” in the search box at the bottom and hit Enter.
  2. Expand “Sound, video and game controllers”.
  3. Right-click on “Realtek Audio” and select “Update driver”.
  4. Tap on “Browse my computers for drivers”.
  5. Click “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer” and select “High Definition Audio Device”.
  6. Click the “Next” button.

Play an audio track to check if the problem is fixed.

Fix 7: Perform a System Restore

If you started facing sound problems on your Lenovo laptop after installing software or tweaking the settings, it’s likely that the change has caused the problem. You can easily fix the issue by performing a system restore to a previous point in time when there were no sound issues.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Type “Create a restore point” in the search box and hit the “Enter” button.
