1. Temporarily Disable Real-Time Protection

The first thing you should do is simply disable the real-time protection in your Antivirus software to check for the issue.

  • Click on the Start menu > Search for virus & threat protection.

  • Next, search for defender firewall from the Start menu > Open it and turn off manually.

2. Verify Game Files on Steam

  • Click on In-Game from the left pane > Make sure to click on the checkbox next to the ‘Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game’ option to uncheck/disable it.
  • Once done, click on OK to save changes > Reboot Steam to apply changes too.

Disable Discord Overlay:

  • Launch the Discord app > Click on the gear icon at the bottom.
  • Click on Overlay under App Settings > Turn on the Enable in-game overlay.
  • Click on the Games tab > Select Myth of Empires.
  • Finally, turn off the Enable in-game overlay toggle.
  • Make sure to reboot your PC to apply changes.

Disable Xbox Game Bar:

  • Press Windows + I keys to open Windows Settings.
  • Click on Gaming > Go to Game Bar > Turn off Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar option.

If in case, you’re unable to find out the Game Bar option then just search for it from the Windows Settings menu.

Disable Nvidia GeForce Experience Overlay:

  • Launch the Nvidia GeForce Experience app > Head over to Settings.
  • Click on the General tab > Disable the In-Game Overlay option.
  • Finally, restart the PC to apply changes, and launch the game again.

5. Run an SFC Scan

If none of the methods worked for you, try running the SFC (System File Checker) scan on your Windows computer to check for the internal issue with the system files or installed applications. If there is an issue, the system will try fixing it out or let you know about the specific problem. So, you’ll be able to find out and fix the particular problem quite easily. To do so:

  • Click on the Start Menu and type cmd.
  • Now, right-click on Command Prompt from the search result.
  • Select Run as administrator > If prompted, click on Yes to give admin privileges.
  • Once the command prompt window opens, type the following command and hit Enter to execute it: [There is a space before /]
sfc /scannow
  • Now, wait for the process to complete.
  • Once done, restart your computer to change effects immediately.
