Though the title is doing really well and advanced players can use mods to enhance the gaming performance, it seems that several GTA V players are facing multiple issues. In-game mods are quite useful in terms of gameplay experience, but sometimes they might trouble launching games or performing any tasks. But somehow it’s quite unfortunate that some GTA 5 players facing the OpenIV downloading issue which says “This site can’t provide a secure connection”. It’s also worth mentioning that running the tool after installation is important to take effect the modifications in GTA 5. Luckily, there are a few workarounds that should come in handy. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump into it.

1. Reboot the PC

First, you’ll have to reboot the PC manually to ensure there is no temporary system glitch or cache data issue bothering your end. Some users did find this step useful. So, you can try it.

2. Run GTA V as administrator

Make sure to run the game application file as an administrator on the system to avoid user account control regarding privilege issues. To do this:

  • Right-click on the GTA V application on your PC.
  • Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.

  • Now, click on Run this program as an administrator to select it.
  • Click on Apply and select OK to save changes.

3. Correctly Download and Install OpenIV

You can also try downloading and installing the OpenIV setup file on the PC correctly to ensure there is no issue with the mod file installation. To do this:

  • You should visit the website and download the OpenIV application on your PC.
  • Then launch the OpenIV tool setup > select the Language.
  • Accept the Software License Terms > Select Install OpenIV to this computer.
  • The program might download a small 20MB additional file.
  • Click on OK to proceed.

4. Use OpenIV in GTA 5

Make sure to use OpenIV in GTA V by following the steps below to ensure the tool is running fine at your end.

  • Launch the newly installed OpenIV app.
  • Select Grand Theft Auto 5 window > Click on the Browse button.
  • Then navigate to the Grand Theft Auto 5 root folder.
  • Now, the green text should appear under the Grand Theft Auto 5 location textbox.
  • Click on Continue > Then a window should pop up.
  • GTA V players will have to click on Edit Mode on the upper part of the window.
  • If you’re getting a warning message, click on Yes.
  • Next, go to Tools > Click on Package Installer.
  • GTA V players will need to follow the mod author’s instructions for mod installation.

Please Note: If you’re using Epic Games then the root folder should be in (Local Disk) C:/Program Files/Epic Games/GTAV. While Steam users can go to the (Local Disk) C:/STEAM/steamapps/common/GTAV directory.

5. Use Wayback Machine Internet Archive

The Wayback Machine is a digital archive destination of the WWW (World Wide Web) founded by the Internet Archive which will let you find out and grab the necessary files whenever any specific website doesn’t load or the domain gets expired. In that case, if the OpenIV webpage doesn’t load or throws an error then make sure to follow the steps below to use the internet archive directory to download the OpenIV file.

  • Open the web browser and search for Wayback Machine.
  • Visit the website and enter the OpenIV setup download URL directly.
  • Then click on Browse History > Scroll down to the calendar format and go to the latest available date. [blue marked]
  • Now, hover over the date, and click on the timestamp to easily download the latest version of the OpenIV setup file.
  • After downloading the OpenIV setup application, you can check the above method to easily install and use it.

6. Try Using Discord Server (GTA GAMER)

If the internet archive directory method didn’t come in handy then make sure to try using the Discord server invitation link and the steps to grab the OpenIV setup executable. To do so:

  • Visit the Discord Server Invitation Link here.
  • Then click on GTA GAMER Discord Server from the left pane to open it.
  • Now, search for the latest available OpenIVsetup.exe file link.
  • You should get a potentially dangerous download notice > Click on Continue to download.
  • Once downloaded, go through method 04 above to install and run this tool.

7. Update GTA V

It’s also worth recommending you simply update the GTA 5 game on the PC by following the steps below to ensure there is no issue with the outdated game patch version. An outdated game patch version can eventually trigger multiple issues with the game launching or even running mod files.


For Steam:

  • Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
  • Click on GTA V from the left pane.
  • It’ll automatically search for the available update.
  • Now, if there is an update available, click on Update.
  • Wait for some time to install the update.
  • Once done, make sure to close the Steam client.
  • Finally, reboot your PC to apply changes, and then try launching the game again.

For Epic Games Launcher:

  • Open the Epic Games Launcher > Head over to Library.
  • Now, click on the three dots icon of GTA V.
  • Make sure the Auto Update option is turned on.

For Rockstar Games Launcher:

  • Open the Rockstar Games Launcher.
  • Click on GTA V from the left pane.
  • Go to the Settings menu > Click on GTA V under My installed games.
  • Now, click on Enable automatic updates to enable it.

8. Verify and Repair the Game Files

The chances are high that you’re having an issue with the corrupted or missing game files on the PC. Make sure to always verify and repair the installed game files that should help in fixing the issue with the game launching or even appearing the mods.

For Steam:

  • Launch Steam > Click on Library.
  • Right-click on GTA V from the list of installed games.
  • Now, click on Properties > Go to Local Files.
  • Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • You’ll have to wait for the process until it gets completed.
  • Once done, just restart your computer.

For Rockstar Games Launcher:

  • Open the Rockstar Games Launcher and sign into the account.
  • Go to Settings > Select GTA V under the My installed games section on the left side.
  • Now, select Verify Integrity under the Verify game file integrity section on the right side.
  • Wait for the repair process and then launch the game again.

For Epic Games Launcher:

  • Open the Epic Games Launcher > Click on Library.
  • Click on the three-dots icon of GTA V.
  • Click on Verify and it’ll start verifying the game files.
  • Wait for the process to complete and restart the launcher.

9. Disable Antivirus and Firewall

You should also disable the Windows Antivirus program on the PC by following the steps below to cross-check if the game mod is working fine or not.

  • Press the Win+I keys to open Windows Settings.
  • Now, click on Update & Security > Click on Windows Security from the left pane.
  • Click on the Open Windows Security button.
  • Go to Virus & threat protection > Click on Manage Settings.
  • Just Turn Off the Real-time protection option.
  • If prompted, click on Yes to proceed further.

Additionally, you can also turn off Windows Firewall manually by following the steps below.

  • Click on the Start Menu > Type Windows Defender Firewall and click on it from the search results.
  • Select Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  • From the Customize Settings page, select the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) option in all the PublicDomain, and Private Networks.
  • Click on OK to save changes.
  • Once done, reboot the PC to apply changes.
