Troubleshoot Roomba Charging Error 1 (The Battery Is Not Detected)

How to fix Roomba Charging Error 1?

Check the Charging cable:

Before going ahead with the rest of the solutions, first, you need to check your charging cable. If there is anything wrong with it, the Roomba robot will not charge up properly, and you will see Error 1. One of the most common causes for battery-related issues on an electric device is always the charging cable. So give it a thorough check.

If you have ensured nothing wrong with the cable, move ahead with the other solutions mentioned below.

Clean the Battery and Terminals:

There is a high chance that the terminals of the battery or dock have dust or carbon on them.

  • Remove the 4 screws present on the bottom of the device and detach the cover they are holding.
  • Remove the yellow battery tag completely.
  • Check the battery terminals and clean them using rubbing alcohol. Carefully rub the battery terminals using a q tip.
  • Clean the internal robot contacts the same way.
  • Reattach the bottom cover and tighten the 4 screws again.
  • Now, clean the charging points of the Roomba robot using the rubbing alcohol again.
  • After that, put the Roomba robot on charging for at least 16 hours.
  • Now check whether error 1 shows up or not.

If error 1 does show up, try the next solution mentioned below.

Insert Fillings in the Battery Compartment:

Charging Error 1 shows up when the battery is not detected. So if your battery is not properly placed, there is a high chance you will encounter this error message. So you can try using some corrugated paper to keep the battery aligned and in place.

  • Remove the 4 screws present on the bottom of the device and detach the cover they are holding.
  • Check whether the battery is properly fitting in the compartment or not.
  • If it is moving in its place, place some corrugated paper on the side of the battery or under the battery compartment’s terminals to stop the battery’s movement.
  • Once the battery is properly seated, reattach the bottom cover and tighten the 4 screws again.

Now try charging your robot again. You should not see the error again.
