Do you use Password managers all the time and are not happy with what the iCloud Keychain has to offer? This is quite understandable as many of us don’t use only Apple products. Some use an iPhone and also own a Windows computer. How can you then keep your passwords on Keychain and open it up on your Windows system while logging in to a website? So what we can do here is use an alternative of the iCloud Keychain.
There are several good password managers out there like the LastPass, 1password, or Dashlane. You can use either one of these as your password manager, and use the same application on multiple platforms like iOS, Windows, Android, or more. So first download any one of these password managers on your manager as per your preference. Once you have that password manager, add your login credentials for different accounts to that password manager and then follow the guide here.
How to Use Third-Party Password Managers on iPhone & iPad?
Once you have installed the password manager on your iPhone or iPad and added your information, you are set to go. You should iOS 12 or later running on your device though to use this feature. So if you are using an ancient Apple device that does not support iOS 12, then you cant use this feature.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- In the Settings menu, scroll and look for the option ‘Password & Accounts’.
- Now tap on ‘Autofill Passwords’.
- Here turn on the toggle for Autofill Passwords, and just below it, you will see a list of all the password managers you have on your device.
- Choose any password manager from the list that you want to use as your password manager.
- Now you will have to log in to your account in that password manager.
- Now if you head over to any site or app where you need to log in, and you have that login information in the password manager then as soon as you tap in the space to enter your username or email for that account, and autofill for will show up in your keyboard containing your log in account info. It won’t show the password there though.
- Tap on it, and then you will be asked to authenticate this action using a Face ID or Touch ID. Once you do confirm that it’s you, your login information will be filled in automatically. Then you can log in to it quickly.
Until iOS 12 iPhone or iPad users were stuck with iCloud Keychain as their password manager. But Apple realized the need of their customers and thus added the feature to add third-party password managers to the autofill settings. This makes it easy for people to use the autofill feature using one particular password for different devices running on different platforms. You can use the same password manager on all of them.
