The 2.3 patch in Blizzard Entertainment’s popular hack and slash roleplaying game, Diablo 3, introduced a powerful new item known as the Kanai’s Cube. This unique artifact is the heir to the legendary Horadric Cube that enables you to transform or break apart legendary objects, in order to acquire select properties.
If you are aiming for an endgame playthrough, then obtaining the Kanai’s Cube is a must. It will allow your character to withstand much greater damage and still survive. Furthermore, it brings in new progression for you to work through. It is to your advantage to obtain it as soon as you can. In this all-new guide, we will take you through all the steps of acquiring the Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3.
The legend of the Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3
Before we come to the method of obtaining the Kanai’s Cube, it is necessary to read a bit of its backstory in Diablo 3. This artifact serves as the prototype and most robust version of the Horadic Cube, crafted by Zoltan Kulle, who used powerful magic to produce this powerful Cube. Unfortunately, he also sacrificed the sanity of a number of the Horadrim (and quite possibly his own) in the process. As a result, the Horadrim finally revolted against the Cube and decided to produce the relatively milder Horadric Cubes instead.
After you kill Kulle in Act 2, you will eventually encounter his spirit after you reach Level 70 and enter the Adventure mode. He will ask you to retrieve his original Kanai’s Cube that the Horadrim had taken and carefully concealed somewhere. In return, he offers to demonstrate to you the methods of harnessing and using its terrifying power. Allegedly, Kulle’s spirit is trapped and unable to pass on until someone noble and powerful comes across his body and proves themselves worthy of wielding the Cube. Obviously, that someone is you in the game.
Obtaining the Kana’s Cube in Diablo 3
In order to obtain the Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3, you must first take up Zoltan Kulle’s quest in the game. This can be done from any of the city hubs you see on your map. You will be able to embark on this quest at once in Adventure Mode, and then make your way to the Ruins of Sescheron map in Act 3. It is important to keep in mind that the Cube itself is a level below the Ruins in the Elder Sanctum map, generally in the upper right corner in the Immortal Throne (with Kanai’s body still placed on it).
After you find the Cube, simply click it in order to claim it. It will now turn up in your hub town right next to Kulle in all the Adventure Mode zones. You will then have to obtain specific materials, such as drops from Horadric Caches, in order to use it. You can view the list of required items in the Cube’s interface. Gathering all of them will enable you to start using the Cube’s powers as much as you wish to. You can use it to endow yourself with legendary powers you extract, craft rare mythical objects from precious objects, use Puzzle Rings to produce a portal to the Realm of Greed, and more. In Season 20, you will also get to use three different effects on the Cube, instead of just one of every kind.
