How to Disable Password Reveal Button in Windows 10?

While logging into your Windows account on your PC, if you have enabled a password, then you might have noticed a little eye icon beside it. If you click on it, it reveals, the password. A useful feature indeed. However, people might find it unnecessary and dislike it. Even more, such a feature creates an opportunity for anyone to steal your Windows 10 password.

If for any reason you too dislike the feature and want to remove or disable the password reveal button in Windows 10. Then you will just have to follow the instructions mentioned below to do so.

Disable Password Reveal Button Using Group Policy Settings

Group Policy settings let you tweak and customize a lot of Windows features. It’s quite like the Registry Editor, but Group Policy editor is used to enable or Disable features rather than assigning value to a function, etc. Hence, you can group policy to disable the password reveal button in Window 10 login. After following these steps, if it doesn’t work, then try rebooting your PC.

Step 1) Firstly, press the Windows Key + R keys on your keyboard to open up the Run dialog box and then type gpedit.msc and press enter or click on the OK button.

Step 2) Once the Group Policy settings window opens up, there on the left pane expand the Administrative Templates category. Then click on the side arrow beside the option Windows Components to expand it, lastly click on Credential User Interface.

Step 3) After you have selected the Credentials User Interface option, move to the right pane of the Window and double-click on the first option Do Not display the password reveal button.

Step 4) Another window will open up. There check the Disabled button. Then click on the Apply button below to confirm the settings.

To close the window, click on the OK button. After that, you can sign out and check if the password reveal button is still there.

Disable Windows 10 Power Reveal Button Using the Registry Editor

In some editions of Windows, you might not have the Group Policy editor, and then you can use the Registry Editor to disable the password reveal button.

Step 1) First;y, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open up the Run dialog box, then type regedit and press Enter to open up the Registry Editor.

Step 2) Now, go to the following path as mentioned below. You can just copy the path to the Registry Address bar and press Enter.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CredUI

How to Disable Password Reveal Button in Windows 10

Step 3) Right-click on the CredUI folder, hover your mouse on New, and select Key from the option. Then name the new key as CredUI and hit the Enter button.

Step 4) Now, on the right-pane, right-click on the empty space, hover on New, and select the DWORD (32-bit) Value option. Give it’s value name as DisablePasswordReveal, enter the value data as 1, and make sure you have checked the Hexadecimal option.

Click on the OK button to confirm the settings. Then reboot your computer. The password reveal button will be disabled now.

Conclusion

The password reveal button can save you from unknown privacy enemies who are trying to do shoulder surfing to steal your passwords. However, the feature might be a little inconvenient and not necessarily suited if you work in a secure environment. However, it is still advised not to disable the password reveal button in Windows 10 as it is there to protect your personal data only.
