On the 12th of July, the Ubisoft Team finally confirmed the release date of the next part of the Far Cry franchise, Far Cry 6, during the Ubisoft Forward live stream. In this article, I’ll be going over the various editions of Far Cry 6, what you get with each purchase, and which edition we recommend you should get. You can consider this a buyers’ guide for Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 Editions
There are currently 4 editions of Far Cry 6 to pick from. We have:
- The Standard Edition;
- The Gold Edition;
- The Ultimate Edition; and
- The Collector’s Edition.
Let’s examine what you get when you purchase a particular edition of Far Cry 6.
Standard Edition
The Standard Edition comes with the game and nothing more. It’s also the cheapest of the packs, coming in at $59.99.
Gold Edition
The Gold edition of Far Cry 6 comes with some extras which also means a price increase. The Gold Edition Steelbook variant comes in at $109.99 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, while it costs $99.99 for the Gold Edition Digital variant which is available for only the Xbox One and Xbox One Series X.
With either variant of the Gold Edition of Far Cry 6, you get the season pass alongside the base game.
Ultimate Edition
This is where things start to get interesting. When you purchase the Ultimate Edition, you get the Base Game, the Season Pass and the Ultimate Pack. In the ultimate pack, you get the Vice Pack, the Croc Hunter Pack & the Jungle Expedition Pack. This sets you back $119 on both the Xbox and PlayStation Series.
Collector’s Edition
For $200, the Collector’s Edition will get you the Full Game, Season Pass, Ultimate Pack (everything that comes with the Ultimate Edition) and the Collector’s bundle.
The Collector’s Bundle contains an exclusive Steelbook, game soundtrack, a 64-page artbook, Chorizo Keyring and the epic Tostador: The FlameThrower replica.
Note that the collector’s bundle is a Ubisoft store exclusive purchase.
Buyers’ Guide – Which Far Cry 6 Edition is Right for You?
So the big question, which edition is right for you? Well, it depends. If you’re on a tight budget and simply want to experience the beautiful gameplay of the Far Cry franchise, then the Standard Edition is without a doubt what is right for you.
In my opinion, however, the Ultimate Edition is the sweet-spot. You get everything that comes with the Gold Edition for just $10 extra. And you also get the Ultimate Pack which also exists in the collector’s edition. For $109, the Ultimate Edition of Far Cry 6 is a no brainer.
Unless, you are, well, a collector, the Collector’s pack is a bit overkill. Now if you’re a die-hard Far Cry fan it doesn’t hurt to get the Collector’s Edition. You get EVERYTHING in the Ultimate Edition and a few more perks.
Far Cry 6 Pre-Order Bonus
Making a pre-order of the game from any platform qualifies you for the “Libertad Pack” which comes with a “state-of-the-art” CD launcher and a skin for Chorizo.
You are also entitled to a free upgrade to Far Cry 6 on a newer console if you purchased it for an older console. This means that, if for example, you purchase Far Cry 6 for the Xbox One or the PS4, you are qualified for a free upgrade of Far Cry 6 for The Xbox Series X or PS5 respectively at zero cost, when those consoles become available.
Far Cry 6 is scheduled for release on February 18, 2021.
