Landfall Studio’s Content Warning has become a trending topic in the gaming community and social media with its spooky yet funny gaming experience. Meanwhile, this game launch was free to keep for the first 24 hours for interested players before falling into the paid list and it has blown up on Steam. As players will have to get into the co-op mode to record their friends doing scary things and uploading them on SpookTube to become famous & rich, everyone likes it so much. However, online co-op titles have come with some issues, so Content Warning Failed to Extract Error.
This is one of the cool ways of releasing a video game when most of us are also doing the same freaking ways to get popular and generate revenue as a career-builder. Developers have done a great job with this new horror game where everything seems easy to perform but not everyone won’t be a SpookTube famous because views matter. The more scary moments you film to upload, the more views and popularity you’ll receive. So, it’s all about getting viral in a sense just like the real-life scenario.
The best part is that 2 to 4 players can join this co-op horror game to challenge their friends to explore spooky places and capture unreal visuals on camera. Though the response is pretty good so far, it seems that uploading your footage ‘failed to extract’ at times which leads to losing your gameplay recording. In case, you’re unable to get a disc, you can’t proceed to the next session. Well, this specific error message appears whenever you drop your camera in the ‘Video Extraction Machine’ console & not able to receive the CD (saved footage).

Fix Content Warning Failed to Extract Error
In the Content Warning gameplay, players have to visit the spooky Old World and come back alive. As the game allows players to use a camera for recordings, players will have to use it to film spooky creatures and scary incidents. Whenever you come back home to the New World, you’ll be able to extract the CD footage from your camera. But this ‘failed to extract’ error notice becomes frustrating.
Even though there is no official or permanent way to resolve this error as of now, the Landfall Studios team is aware of this issue. In case, you don’t want to retry playing the same completed session in Content Warning from the beginning, there is a potential workaround mentioned below until devs come up with a stable solution. Additionally, we’ve provided with you some other workarounds to try once. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.
1. Use the F3 Key to Debug-Extract the Video
As mentioned above, this specific temporary workaround has been suggested by the Landfall Games X page recently. So, you can try it before jumping into other troubleshooting methods.
For anyone encountering the “failed to extract” bug with Content Warning you can press F3 to debug-extract the video! 🙏
— Landfall (@LandfallGames) April 1, 2024
- To recover your ‘failed to extract’ footage in Content Warning, just press F3.
- A Windows folder of the recordings from the current session will open.
- Now, search for the fullRecording video file inside the folder.
- Just take a manual backup of the footage or remember the path.
Please Note: In case, you’re unable to open the recordings location on your PC, try manually visiting the following path instead.
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\rec
Well, if you still can’t find the recordings folder, try searching for ‘fullRecording’ with the Windows search feature.
Do keep in mind that this is a temporary folder location and only the current session recordings of Content Warning will be found here. In case, you’ve already closed or exited the game, you won’t be able to get the footage after receiving the ‘failed to extract’ error notice.
2. Try Changing the Host for Recording
After getting the error message in Content Warning, you’ll continue receiving the same error in a server multiple times. So, you can also try changing the host of holding the camera and recording footage until the current session ends. We’re expecting that most of the players will benefit from it. Just leave the lobby and join a new one to ask someone else to host a private lobby. Now, try playing the game to check for potential errors.
3. Run the Game as an Administrator
We recommend you run the Content Warning game program as an administrator on your PC by following the steps below to allow the system admin privileges. Without having the system admin’s permission, your game won’t be able to run smoothly or perform specific tasks at times.
- Open the Steam client.
- Go to the Library.
- Right-click on Content Warning.
- Click on Manage.
- Now, click on Browse local files.
- It’ll open the game installation directory.
- Right-click on the ContentWarning.exe app.
- Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.
- Enable the Run this program as an administrator checkbox.
- Click on Apply > Select OK to save changes.
4. Update Content Warning
The chances are high that somehow you’re running an outdated game version on your computer for a while and it’s required to install the latest available patch update for the game. With the new patch update version, your game will run smoothly and a couple of bugs should have been fixed too.
- Open your Steam client.
- Go to the Library.
- Right-click on Content Warning.
- Next, click on Properties.
- Go to the Updates tab.
- Enable the automatic updates option.
- If a new update is available, Steam will automatically install it.
5. Verify the Integrity of the Game Files
You may also need to manually verify the integrity of the game files installed on your Windows system by following the steps below. It seems that game files become corrupted or missing on the installed directory and that’s why the game fails to perform several tasks. Luckily, Steam offers an integrated game file-repairing feature for players. So, you can check for the same.
- Launch the Steam client.
- Click on the Library.
- Right-click on Content Warning from the list.
- Now, click on Properties.
- Go to the Local Files tab.
- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Wait for it to complete > Once done, restart your PC to apply changes.
6. Turn On the Camera Only When Required
It’s also suggested to turn on the camera in Content Warning only when required. This will avoid issues with the ‘failed to extract’ error while getting a CD. In case, you’re using the in-game camera for recording unnecessary stuff and not-so-scary creatures then you should avoid doing it.
7. Don’t Turn On and Off the Camera Too Much
Another thing you can also do is not to turn on and off the camera in Content Warning in quick succession. By following this trick, you’ll be able to reduce the possibility of encountering the Content Warning Failed to Extract error. To be precise, you should restrict yourself and your friends in the ongoing session to prevent the footage-extracting error once you get back home.
If we talk about the permanent solution to this error, you can try waiting for a while until the developers release a new patch fix soon. This is one kind of a server-side technical issue and we’re expecting you may soon receive the patch update to address this issue.
