How to Fix Keyboard Typing Wrong letters issue?

The different solutions or fixes mentioned here in this article have worked for different users. So you have to try one fix after the other until you find the one that solves your problem.

Disable Num Lock:

If your computer registers numbers instead of letters when typing letters, you probably have Num lock enabled on your Keyboard. To turn off the Num lock, press the Fn key + Num key together at the same time to disable the Num lock.

If you do not have a Num key on your keyboard, press the Fn key + Caps lock key to disable Num lock.

Now try typing any word of your choice to check if that solved your problem. If you still see wrong letters, try the next solution mentioned below.

Change the keyboard layout and language:

You can try switching to a different language layout and then back to your preferred language layout to reset your keyboard setup. In some cases, that solved the problem right away for many users. Or you can set your desired language as the default language to override for default input.

Type Language in the search bar.
The language settings options will show up in the results. Click on Language settings, which will open up the language settings window on your computer.
Navigate to Spelling, typing & keyboard settings.
Go to advanced keyboard settings.
Here, set the Override for the default input method to the same language as the default and then close the window.

If that does not solve the problem, we will try switching over to a different language.

Click on Start and then type region and language.
Then select Add a language.
Now set the new language as the default using the steps mentioned above.
After you have done that, switch the language back to the previous language and then check whether the typing error is resolved or not.

Try the following solution mentioned below if you are still stuck with mistyped words and letters.

Reinstall or update keyboard drivers:

Most often, any device problem can be fixed easily with a driver update. To ensure that your Keyboard is working perfectly, update your keyboard drivers to the latest version.

There are two ways to go about it. You can either choose to update the drivers manually or automatically.

To update the drivers manually, go to your device manufacturer’s website and look for the latest driver file for your version of windows. Once you have found the file, download it to your computer. After that, double-click the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest drivers on your computer.

To update the drivers automatically, you can use a third-party application that will scan your computer for any missing or outdated drivers and then install the latest version of the drivers automatically for you. These third-party applications usually charge a bit for their service, but it is a worthwhile investment as you do not need to worry about the drivers in your computer ever again.

After updating the drivers, restart your computer and try using the Keyboard again. Try the following solution mentioned below if you are still stuck with mistyped letters.

Update your Operating System:

Sometimes a simple Windows update can fix most of your issues with the computer. Even with this keyboard issue, you can update the Windows and see if that solves your problem.

Press Windows key + I to open up the Windows settings panel.
Click on Update and security.
Then click on Windows Update.
If there are any pending updates, they will appear in the right pane.
Install the update and then restart the computer.

Now try using the Keyboard again. If you still encounter mistyped letters, try the next solution mentioned below.

Run the keyboard troubleshooter:

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter tool to fix most common windows related issues.

Click on the Windows search bar and look for Troubleshoot settings.
Click on the troubleshoot settings option. The troubleshooting window will show up. Here, click on the Keyboard and then click on Run the troubleshooter.
Let Windows automatically fix the problem for you.

Now try using the Keyboard again. If you still encounter mistyped letters, try the next solution mentioned below.

Reconnect your Keyboard:

Keyboards are connected to a computer through cable or wireless via a receiver.

If you are using a wired keyboard, shut down the computer and then unplug the keyboard USB from your computer. Now, wait for a couple of minutes and then reconnect the USB to the computer. Then turn on the computer and check whether the issue with mistyped letters is resolved or not.

If you are using a wireless keyboard, turn off your computer and unplug the wireless receiver from your computer. Wait for a couple of minutes and then reconnect the receiver to the computer. Then turn on the computer and check whether the issue with mistyped letters is resolved or not.

If even this does not solve the problem, it is definitely with the Keyboard itself. You should get your Keyboard replaced entirely. There are several keyboards available at all categories of prices. Just choose one that best meets your requirement.
