Today HMD Global has started rolling the latest Nokia 8 Android 9.0 Pie OTA update for all the beta tester who has signed up for the Nokia Beta Lab programme. Steps to Install Nokia 8 Android 9.0 Pie Update Manually

Before installing the latest Android Pie update for Nokia 8, you have to follow a few guidelines which we have mentioned below.

Method 1: Via Dialer App [Tested and Works]:

Pre-Requisites: 

  • This OTA is exclusively for Nokia 8 only. Don’t use it on other devices
  • Ensure that your phone has the latest Android 8.1 Oreo firmware installed.
  • Charge your phone to at least 70% more
  • Though you won’t lose any of your data in the installation process, we still suggest you take a  full backup.

Instructions:

  1. First of all, download the OTA zip – OTA link contains two download link. One is December Security Patch with Oreo firmware and another Pie Update.
  2. First flash the NB1-488L-0-00WW-B01-488K-0-00WW-B01-update.zip – this is December Security and then upgrade Pie update
  3. To do that, move the OTA Zip package to the root of your device’s internal storage [Outside all folders ]
  4. Open the dialer app (Phone) and dial the number*#*#874#*#
  5. Wait for the update to finish and restart when prompted.

Method 2: Via ADB Method

We have not tested this, but the first method works really fine.

Pre-Requisites

  • This OTA is exclusively for Nokia 8 only. Don’t use it on other devices
  • Though you won’t lose any of your data in the installation process, we still suggest you take a  full backup.
  • Charge your phone to at least 70% more
  • Download the Minimal ADB & fastboot tool.
  • A PC/Laptop

Instructions:

Here are simple steps that you have to follow to manually flash the latest Android Pie update on Nokia 8.

Step-1 First, download the Nokia 8 Android Pie OTA zip file on your PC/Laptop.

Step-2 Move the OTA file to the folder where you have installed the ADB/fastboot.

Step-3 Hold the SHIFT key + right-click in the white space inside the folder > Select ‘Open PowerShell window here’.

Step-4 Connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable.

Step-5 Verify the connection status of your device by entering the command given below:

 adb devices

Step-6 You will see it returns the device ID which confirms the connection is properly made.

Step-7 Boot your device into fastboot mode by following the below command.

adb reboot bootloader

Step-8 Now enter the following command to sideload the OTA zip file to install Android Pie on Nokia 8.

adb sideload path_to_zip/NB1-488L-0-00WW-B01-488K-0-00WW-B01-update.zip 

(replace OTA package zip with the actual file name as you have saved)

Step-9 After the installation process finishes, go back to recovery menu and select ‘Reboot system now’.

  1. Hello, can you please update the article for 5.150? For some reason I can’t use the adb method, and I can’t go into recovery mode on my phone, hence only the first version would work for me to have the latest update.
