Resetting Photoshop within the program:
For Windows:
The process of resetting the preferences in Photoshop is very similar, and it takes only a few clicks to get it done.
- Launch the Photoshop program on your computer.
- Click on the “Edit” option in the menu bar at the top and move your mouse cursor over to “Preferences.”
- Then click on General.
- In the general section, click on the button “Reset Preferences On Quit.”
- You will see a pop-up window asking for confirmation. Click on Ok here.
- Then close the Adobe Photoshop program to complete the preferences reset.

For this method, you will first need to find the application file for the program and use the shortcut keys on it.
For Windows:
- To find the shortcut file, click on the Windows Start button and search for “Adobe Photoshop.”
- When you find the shortcut, press Alt+Ctrl+Shift and open the application.
- Photoshop will ask whether you want to delete the settings file now. Click on Yes when you see this pop-up window.
For Mac:
- Open up the Finder window and navigate to Go > Applications in the menu bar.
- Double-click on the Photoshop folder here.
- You will see the “Adobe Photoshop” application file in this folder.
- Press Shift+Command+Option and open the application using this app file.
- Photoshop will ask whether you want to delete the settings file now. Click on Yes when you see this pop-up window.
