Things to Do Before Installing a Software Update
Jumping directly to the software update section and hitting the install button is not a good practice. There are things to check on your TV beforehand. Before you start downloading a software update, make sure that your Smart TV has sufficient storage. Ideally, your TV should have a couple of GBs more storage than the firmware size.
Next, you would want to make sure that your internet connection is fast and stable. A frequently disconnecting/unstable can fail to download a large update.
Once these two boxes are checked, you are ready to download and install the latest software on your TCL Smart TV.
How to Update Your TCL Android TV
There are multiple ways of updating your TCL Android TV. We’ll list all of them. If your TCL Android TV is connected to the internet, we’d recommend using your internet to update the device.
Steps to update your TCL Android TV (via Internet):
- Grab your remote and press the Home button.
- Press the Settings icon in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down to More settings and tap on it.
- Select Device Preferences.
- Go to the About section.
- Select System Update and choose the Network Update option.

Steps to update your TCL Android TV (via USB flash drive):
- On your computer, go to the TCL support website and download the latest firmware for your TCL Android TV.
- You can change the firmware file name to “update.zip” to recognize it easily.
- Now, copy the firmware file to a USB drive.
- Remove all USB drives connected to your TCL Android TV.
- Insert the USB drive containing the firmware file. Your TCL TV will automatically detect the USB Driver and check for firmware.
You’ll be prompted to install the update. Select OK to proceed.
Wait for the installation to finish. It can take time.

How to Update Your TCL Roku TV
If you have a Roku TV version of TCL Smart TV, you can easily get the latest firmware on your TV using the internet. There’s also a way to install the firmware via a USB flash drive.
Steps to update your TCL Roku TV (via Internet):
- Connect your TCL Roku TV to the internet.
- From the home screen, select the Settings option.
- Choose System and select the System Update option.
- Select Check now to look for new software updates.
- If an update is available, select Update now.
Steps to update your TCL Roku TV (via USB drive):
- On your computer, go to the Roku TV firmware download page.
- Select your TV brand, enter the Roku model number, and serial number, and click the Next option.
- Click the Download Software option to download the latest firmware for your TCL Roku TV.
- Connect a USB flash drive to your computer.
- Move the downloaded firmware file to your USB Drive. Eject it safely.
- Connect the USB drive to your TCL Roku TV.
- The device can automatically

- Select the I Can’t connect option.
- Your Roku TV will now check the firmware file on the USB drive. It will display a 12-digit code.
- Go to the Roku support website again on your PC and enter the 12-digit code you see on your TV.
- You should get a 6-digit code on your computer screen.
- Enter this code on your Roku TV. Your TCL Roku TV should begin installing the latest software.
If you do not want the headache of going through these steps, you can simply enable the Automatic Software Update option to allow your TCL Roku TV to automatically download and install the update when available.
By default, all TCL Roku TVs are automatically set to download and install new software updates. You can verify it by going to Settings > System > Automatic Software Updates.
How to Update TCL Google TV
Want to update your TCL Google TV using the internet, just follow these easy steps to get the latest software on your TV:
- From the home screen, select your profile icon and choose Settings.
- Choose the System option.
- Select About and then choose System update.
- Select the Network Update option to update your TCL Google TV via the Internet.
- If an update is available, tap the Download option and follow the on-screen instructions.
