5 Things You Need to Know About Sons of the Forest

In an interview with IGN, the devs at Endnight Games have pointed out some things that you should know about the game. The new information offers players more explanation of the new systems that they might not be familiar with. If you’ve played The Forest before, you will be aware of some of their features, but this time, it’s on a bigger scale.

Let’s take a look at what to expect from the upcoming horror game.

Enhanced Multiplayer

In Sons of the Forest, you will have up to 8 players at a time playing in multiplayer. In addition to this, AI companions join to carry out commands when you are playing in single-player. Meanwhile, in The Forest, this feature was not present and you needed to play solo through the forested island. These NPCs are unique characters who have a backstory as well, and will revolt or die if you don’t treat them well.

Seasonal Changes

The game will change according to the new season systems, where you will have different terrain and resource availability for each season. The weather can also vary, which matters greatly in gameplay and gives you more things to watch out for. In summer, you will have plenty of resources while winter will not be so kind. There are fewer plants and animals around due to the cold, so you will need to preserve food. However, because it’s cold, cannibals will give up chasing you quicker. The transitions are visible and can be adjusted in the game.

Creative Construction

In The Forest, construction would take place over preset structure templates, but now you have more freedom to design what you want. Based on where you place materials, construction will organically take place. You will no longer see the shadow of the building, or require a blueprint. The building system has thus been completely revised, and you can be a lot more innovative with what you want to build. If you need something specific, you can make the changes by using the materials and tools you have on hand.

Larger Map

The new world map of the island where you will be stranded in Sons of the Forest is four times larger than the first game. It also has more variations in biomes, including caves, woods and free clearings. The trees are all different and are supposed to replicate a real forest, with five times more tree species. There are many water resources where you can hunt for animals and food. You can follow the rivers to use tree trunks as a faster way to travel.

Improved Artificial Intelligence

The enemy AI will be more sophisticated, with realistic dialogue and a memory system where they establish sentiments. Enemies in Sons of the Forest will be able to remember you from previous encounters and act accordingly. All creatures will feel a wide variety of emotions, even cannibals. If you make peace with a cannibal, you can avoid their hostile nature and save yourself from being their dinner.

The new cannibal game is thus a lot more detailed and realistic than the last. With all things considered, players are eagerly awaiting its release. With the dynamic seasons, lifelike environment and characters, diverse biome on the larger island, the game is clearly a product of a lot of hard work. Players will be able to download the game for Windows via Steam from 23rd February, so mark your dates.
