1. Restart the Game
Before doing anything else, you’ll need to manually close and restart the Baldur’s Gate 3 game on the PC to ensure there is no issue with the temporary cache data or glitch.
2. Disable Steam Cloud Save
Another thing you can do is disable the Steam cloud save option on the Steam client to ensure there is no conflict with the online cloud saving. Sometimes, the Steam cloud saving feature can cause several issues with the local game progress save. As players still prefer to save the game progress on the storage locally, there is no need to turn on the Steam cloud option. You can turn it off by following the steps below.
- Launch the Steam client > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 from the list of installed games.
- Click on Properties > Go to the General section.
- Go to Steam Cloud > Turn Off the Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Baldur’s Gate 3 toggle.
3. Delete the Baldur’s Gate 3 AppData Folder
You’ll need to visit the Baldur’s Gate 3 installation directory on your PC via the Steam folder and delete the local app data folder to remove game progress data. It’ll eventually start saving the game progress data in a new way, and the game syncing error should disappear.
- Open the Steam launcher > Go to Library.
- Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 > Go to Manage.
- Select Browse local files > Search for the AppData – Local – Larian Studios – Baldur’s Gate 3 and delete this folder.
- You can also directly head over to the C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3 path on File Explorer and delete the game folder.
- Once done, close File Explorer, and restart the computer to apply changes.
- Finally, run the game again to check for the game progress save issue.
4. Update Baldur’s Gate 3
An outdated game patch version might trouble you a lot with the errors. You can check for the game updates to the latest version to ensure no issue. Make sure to follow the steps below to do so:
- Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
- Click on Baldur’s Gate 3 from the left pane.
- Now, Steam will automatically search for the available update.
- If there is an update available, click on Update.
- Wait for a couple of minutes to complete the update.
- Once done, close Steam and reboot your PC to apply changes.

5. Verify the Integrity of the Game Files
Sometimes, there might be an issue with the installed game files, such as corrupted or missing game files on the PC. It eventually causes game save issues or still syncing issues.
- Launch the Steam client > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 from the list of installed games.
- Click on Properties > Go to the Local Files files.

6. Run Steam as an Administrator

- Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.

7. Disable Windows Firewall
Somehow the chances are high that your Windows Firewall program is blocking the ongoing connections or game files of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PC. You can try turning off Firewall temporarily to check if the game is running fine or not.
- Click on the Start Menu > Type firewall.
- Select Windows Defender Firewall from the search result.
- Now, click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off from the left pane.
- Select the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) option for both the Private & Public Network Settings.
- Once selected, click on OK to save changes.
- Finally, restart your computer to apply changes.
8. Try Launching Steam in Offline Mode
You can also try launching Steam in Offline Mode to cross-check if Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay progress is able to save or not. Some of the affected players did mention this trick.
- Open the Steam client > Click on the Steam menu from the top-left.
- Click on Go Offline > A confirmation message will appear on the screen.
- Click on Restart in Offline Mode.

- Now, go to the Startup tab > Click on Open Task Manager.
- The Task Manager interface will open. Here go to the Startup tab.
- Then click on the particular task which has a higher startup impact.
- Once selected, click on Disable to turn them off from the startup process.
- Do the same steps for each program that has a higher startup impact.
- Once done, make sure to restart your computer to apply changes.
