How to Diagnose and fix USB ports, not working issues?

Due to any technical error or any physical damage, your USB does not work properly on your PC. To fix the problem, you need to check from the root of the issue. And within no time, you can solve the issue as well.

Before jumping into the steps to resolve the USB port working issue, you have to identify whether the problem is in your USB port or your USB device. How to Diagnose and fix USB ports, not working issues?

 If you detect any USB port problem. You received an error message from your operating system that “the device fails to detect,” you can safely remove and replace the device. This process may solve the issue. In other ways, you can restart your PC.

You can check if your USB port is clean or not. If the port is brimming with dust, it will not work properly. In this situation, use a vacuum cleaner or any cleaning device to clean the USB port and try again.

Fix USB port physical connection:

The USB port not working properly may occur if any hardware problem may happen. After the regular use of USB ports, hardware problems may erupt. The USB ports are soldered to the motherboard in your computer, in the frequent use of the port can become movable and sometimes feels loose.

While using some heavy USB devices give significant strain on the port’s physical connection. Replacing a USB port is not easy on a laptop but a little bit easy on a desktop. Anyhow you need the help of any technician to repair it and can fix the issue. 

Restart your computer to fix the problem: 

This is an old and general technique. You can use this technique here as well if your USB port does not work, you can insert an unrecognized USB device into the suspect USB port and restart your computer. Once the computer gets restarted, the operating system detects the USB drive; likewise, you can fix the issue. 

Verify the device manager

If your USB port is not working, after failing the above two techniques, you can try with the device manager. Follow this step to fix the issue:

· Right-click the Start menu and select “Device manager.”

· In the Device Manager, you find “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”

· Then expand the list and select the “USB host controller.”

· And right-click USB host controller and select “uninstall.” 

· Thereafter restart your computer 

Along with the computer restarts, the USB host controller will automatically install; thus, the issue will be solved.  

If you don’t use the USB host controller, you can click the “Scan for hardware changes” button on the toolbar. This process will check out all connected hardware and will detect the USB port all connected to it. 

Disable the USB selective suspend feature:

Your power management settings will sometimes override your USB controller; this may cause the detection of the USB device. This process is usually relevant for laptop users, and this can happen on a desktop as well. USB selective suspend a power-saving setting, and it causes a cut down power to the USB devices. This can reduce battery usage as well. 

To disable USB selective suspend feature in your Windows Pc, follow these steps;

· Click Start and go to “Control panel.”

· Then click the Corresponding result and then select “Hardware and Sound” to Power Options

· You can click “Change plan settings” and select “Change advanced power settings.”

· There you can see USB settings, click it, and find “USB selective suspend setting.” 

· Next, disable the setting and click “Apply” and press Ok to confirm. 

Using all the above extreme steps, you can choose to repair if your USB port is not working. You can make sure if the port is physically fit, you can restart the computer; you can uninstall the USB host controller and disable USB selective suspend power saving option.
